2nd week....no cheating...no loss

Postby Lissakay » March 7th, 2005, 3:55 pm

I just finished my second week (2nd try at this), and didn't lose a bit. Maybe a fraction of one pound.

I didn't cheat, I drank the water, and I am a bit bummed!

I shouldn't be retaining water for any reason either. I use the same brand new scale that has been working perfectly.

This is what happened last time and I gave up after 3 weeks. This is a bit costly (at least for me) and sort of depriving, to lose nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am doing the full fast and have drank all 6 shakes everyday. They were nicely spaced apart too.

Sorry to boo hooo, but I had so hoped for a nice loss for my trip at the end of the month. Any ideas Nancy? I get a little depressed (although I am happy for everyone) to see people that talk about their weight melting off and post such amazing results, I'm like a snail (this week a dead snail ;) ).

Am I way off base? Should I just hope next week will be better? I'm hanging in there and not giving up!!!!!!

Lissakay,

First - don't give up! Second - read "Success in a Shaker Jar". It is fairly common for people to lose very little in their second week, especially if they've lost a lot week one as their bodies adjust. After the first couple of weeks, most people settle into their normal weight loss patterns which range on average from 2-5 pounds per week.

If you are following the program, drinking the water and not over-exercising, you WILL lose weight. Just stick with it.

I was not one of the fastest losers and was quite bummed when others lost weight faster than I did. But I did lose the weight and did it faster than I could have doing any other kind of program. A couple of times when I was losing slowly I tried to convince myself that I could do just as well with food. Fortunately, I didn't listen to myself because it just wouldn't have happened.

Just stick with it. Give yourself a reasonable time limit and then just do it. It will work - there's no way it can't.

Am I reading this right? You lost 17.5 pounds the first week, and now there is no loss the second week and you're ready to give up?

Um.

Most "diets" or food plans, how long would it take you to lose 17.5 pounds?

Most likely your body had such a surprise that it needs a little time to get used to it. I lost 22 pounds in the first three weeks, and at week 4 and 5 my body gave up only 0.5 each week, while it was adjusting and working things out. Following those weeks, I am averaging more than three pounds a week.

Patience, grasshopper! ;) Trust the program; it works.

Noooo! I would still be on an around the state cartwheel-a-thon! 17 pounds in a week would be astounding. :-P I didn't have the heart to completely reset the ticker...sorry if it was confusing.

I did this for 4 weeks and lost 10 pounds. I then quit for almost 2. I have been back at it for 2 weeks tomorrow and I lost 7 the first week back and none this week. I might be at 1/2 pound of loss...I'll know tomorrow when I weigh in.

As I said I am not giving up!!! This is a battle (accurate metaphor!) and I'm in it now, I'm invested. I just wondered what else I might be doing wrong...maybe someone who has been through the same thing has an idea. I'm going home to my medi-cocoa! No way I'm falling off the wagon...maybe next week will be my week!

Lissakay ~

I had some weeks where my weight went up, many when it stayed the same or released minimal amounts - like maybe a quarter of a pound - which was difficult to ascertain on my scale.

Yes, it IS frustrating. It is maddening and it feels like you are being cheated and then a great thing happens: a "ka-thud! Week" comes along - sweet heaven!

If you are doing all the right things - drinking plenty of water (64 ounces minimum), eating your meals every three hours (no longer than 4 hours apart), not doubling up on the meals, not over-exercising, your weight will come off. It takes a while for the body to become accustomed to using the stored energy for its fuel source.

Using the scales daily for some people can be a hazardous experience! Are your clothes feeling looser? Is your energy level good? Do you feel hungry?

Wish we knew how to hurry it up for all of us. When a person reaches their milestone moment, it is truly a victory!

Lissakay,

I know it can be discouraging, but if it helps.....I've been doing this for 9 weeks and have noticed a pattern. I seem to ALWAYS go 1.5 to 2 weeks with no loss (same .5 to 1 pound UP and DOWN) and then I will lose 3-4 lbs in about 2 days. This is has happened consistently for the entire 9 weeks. It does get discouraging when I go for a week or TWO without any loss or even a slight gain, but it is so worth it when so much finally comes off. I am thankful that I stuck with it long enough to see that it is a pattern and that it will eventually come off. I sometimes feel like I am losing alot slower than others, however 27 pounds in 9 or 10 weeks is a TERRIFIC loss! Give it enough time, and when you see the big picture you will be thrilled.

Thank you for that, Miss Shari ~

That is the pattern for many others, too. Guess the fat likes us too much to leap off, eh?

Lissa's body is gonna dump hers, too!

Hanging in there!

Postby Lissakay » March 8th, 2005, 8:48 am

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm hanging in there! I am not going to get on the bleeping scale until next Tuesday. When I have a gain or a no loss I lose my motivation somewhat. Maybe I shouldn't weigh until right before my trip?

Anyway thanks for the kind words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nancy....you are always so encouraging!!

Lissa :)

Maybe we ought to consider a hair cut, ear candling and a shot of that "Colon Blow" stuff, too...just kidding!

I know this is not a laughing matter.

Lemme tell ya, Folks, I want it to happen for you just as much as you do.

Remember all those old 1950's and 60's black and white family television sitcoms where the parents always told their kid just before they meted out the punishment, "This is going to hurt me a lot more that it will hurt you?" - I understand that very much - it kills me when you are working hard to carefully follow the plan the best way you know how and then your scale decides to take a vacation and not report the results of your excellent efforts.

The scale is an inanimate object. It cannot know what you do to remain program-compliant. It does not see you when you drive by the drive-by and do not turn into the parking lot; it does not hear you say “NO, thank you” to the hunk of cheesecake at the birthday party or see you avoid the bagels and pastries at the 10 o’clock coffee break during the office meeting.

It is a metal and plastic contraption that can be used as one tool to help measure your progress but it is not THE only tool to do so – clothing fit is another, sense of well-being, energy level, lack of hunger, etc. are all part of the weight loss reporting network. Do not grow weary in doing well and you will reap a harvest of success!

This is a time for trust. Exercise every ounce of faith that you have in the program because it does work.

Lisa,
I understand your discouragement...but it will only drag you down if YOU let it....I too lose at the pace of a snail, and I also see others that have bigger loses, however, I know I have been 100 % compliant and staying plugged into this forum and my advisor I know, I too, will reap the rewards...maybe it will take longer, but I too will reach the goal. During these times of minute loses we are growing stronger and educating ourselves so we can maintain our Thinny little self :D :D
Glad you chose the forum to vent and not the candy cupboard...So here's to you and your compliancy....

Thanks for the reminder Nancy. I only meant that I become discouraged when I weigh too often. I'm going to try not doing that for a while, and just concentrate on compliance with the program.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Lissa,

I am the world's WORST when it comes to the scale. Seriously. I weigh all the time - we have a teensy little WC and everytime I make a visit, I weigh. I know this is so sick, but I do it. I guess that I am making up for all the years that I never weighed! I don't hate my scale. It doesn't make me feel like I have been a naughty girl or a good girl, I just wanna know where I am - even though I know that I am eating right, I still want to know what the numbers are doing. It is a weirdness with me.

It drives me NUTZ when people weigh only once a month. My parents must have been innoculated by the National Inquirier, 'cuz I have an inquiring mind that's just GOTTA know.

You are so sweet. We are all pulling for you. No more poundlessness for Lissakay as of this time right here and now. Poundage: you are on notice! Leap off that Friend of ours!

Me too!! It doesn't bug me when it goes up, I figure it's just water weight or you know, whatever fluxuations in the day. If it goes down, however, that's REAL lost weight. ;) (Even if it's more than it was when I woke up, as long as it's less than it was the last time I weighed) With as much weight as I lose every day, I should be in the negatives by now. ;)

Hang in there!

Postby laramedifast » March 9th, 2005, 8:23 pm

I have to say I know EXACTLY how you feel! I have gone >1.5 weeks with NO cheats and have lost nothing. My scale is absolutely stuck on the same weight. And everytime I weigh I get angry and want to can the whole plan. Then I take some time and figure, even though the weight seems to fly off everyone else, eventually it GOTTA come off with eating only what we're eating, even if it's more slowly. I've come to appreciate my ability to say not even despite the lack of loss. I think the hardest part is comparing ourselves to others who have lost so much so fast. ANd it makes me doubt myself and wonder what I must be doing wrong. I can't figure it out. I'm doing it the plan as much to a T as I can. All the water, all the replacements spaced out, one meal of meat and lite veggies. I'm just waiting for the day when I get on the scale and discover a big loss... Hang in there, you're not alone!! I'm so with you in spirit in this fat that won't give!!!

Don't blow up your scales!

Don't kick the cat or pull the dog's tail in revenge.

And do not call up the Pizza Dude!

I had those kind of weeks, too. Honest I did!

I still get them at times.

We're waiting for a big old Ka-Thud and we will be so excited and happy for you!

Compare not...it's hard, isn't it? I KNOW!!
