wanting to start

Postby glitterynile » July 9th, 2006, 6:46 pm

hi i'm a college student from nc and have been looking over the forums for the past two weeks and think i have finally desided to do medifast. i did weight watchers in the past and lost about 25 pounds but since then have gained it all back.

by the looks of it medifast will fit my busy schedule, i have a lot of weight to lose and wish to do this plan and get it off at a faster rate than the other diet i have been on.

what i want to know is how to pick a health advisor (how to find a specific one that fits my needs) and how do some of the medifast products taste? like is the soup like canned soup tasting? the oatmeal? bars? shakes?

Thanks! :D

everyone is different. i think a lot of people prefer the oatmeals, puddings, shakes, and drinks to the soups and chili.

try the lean cuisine section-- a lot of people talk about what they do to make individual foods more palatable.

good luck!

As for a Health Advisor, if you click on Nancy and Terry's picture, you can call the toll-free number and they'll assign you someone. Or if you want to pick your own, there's a partial list here on the forum. (Or if there's someone you particularly identify with, you can ask if they're an HA.)

Good luck and welcome!! (And personally, I love the chili and the broccoli soup if they're doctored up enough. I also love the oatmeal, and tolerate the pudding and other soups. It's not gourmet fare, but most of it's not bad. And Alex is right, the Lean Cuisine section can help a lot with ideas for fixing things more to your liking.)

Hi glitterynile, Welcome !!

I think you are really going to love the program and how wonderful that you have decided to give it a go. I am not exactly sure how the Health advisor stuff works for people who are wanting to choose a specific person. I was fortunate enough to have a friend of mine give me the skinny (hee hee) on MF, so she naturally became my HA.

Other than that stuff, everything does taste a little different than you would buy over the shelf, because... well, it *IS* different (which is a magical, wonderful, good thing). It has it's own flavor just like anything else. When I first got my supplements and started, I could taste the soy protein in almost everything (not a bad flavor, just different compared to what I had been eating). But, I quickly adapted and now all I taste are the yummy flavors of each individual meal.

They are truly yummy :). What fun to share the journey with you, glad you found us.

Best wishes,

Hello & Welcome.

Like said everyones taste is different. I LOVE the chicken noodle soup & hot cocoa. The chocolate & chocolate mint & carmel nut bars are good for me. I am finally after 4 months eating the oatmeal as oatmeal. Before I did muffins, granola crunches, cookies. I did vanilla shakes in the beginning and now I cant stomache them. I also like the chocolate pudding. Most of the other stuff I can do without. You can always try a trade if you dont like something (see the trade section).

Good Luck.

Welcome. I called the 1800 number at the top and got a HA that way. I tend to use this forum more as a HA then the one I have.

As far as taste I think everyone has things they like and dont like. I still make my oatmeal into muffins. I think you will find the same. I dont care for the vanilla shakes but I found someone here who likes them so we swapped.

Good luck!

Hi Glitterynile,

I'm glad you've found us! I like a lot of the food on the program, everyone has DIFFERENT tastes, the good thing is we can order single serving samples and try things. The variety pack gives you a good mix of products and you can get a free week of food with the variety pack.

Also, check out the lean cuisine section, there's a lot of ideas on how to spruce stuff up if you'd like to!

I'm happy you're starting!

As far as the health advisor thing, Dogma already answered that! I just wanted to say welcome!

Well, the food is different than you might expect, but I think you will be surprised that it is actually pretty good. I love the oatmeal. I think it tastes just like regular. My favorite is the peach oatmeal.

The hot chocolate and chai tea tastes like the regular thing. The soups doctored up with some spice tastes good enough, too. Not exactly as thick as the regular kinds, but not bad.

I like the taste of the shakes, personally. I add flavors or crystal light powder to make them stronger or add flavor and lots of ICE to them!

I never had the cappuccino or mocha things, but people seem to add coffee or flavoring and like them.

Snacks are good, too.

Good luck and welcome

Welcome, and glad you are here with us! :D I think that it is somewhat unrealistic to try and compare Medifast products or any 'diet' products to store bought items. Still and all, Medifast products are really good, whether 'doctored up' or left, as is. In the beginning, it will be trial and error for you, in choosing your favorite products--who knows, maybe you will like all of them!!! Much success on the program! :D

Hi there, :D
Welcome to our group and I know that real soon those pesky pounds are going to be leaving!! My daughter is a student -- pre med and spends lots of time in a research lab. The water is not drinkable so she just takes the Ready To Drinks with her to school. That way all she has to do is to head for the hall, pop in a straw, and there it is. They are a wonderful choice for students. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing. We'll help as much as we can.
