Turkey sausage-I've found a LEGAL alternative!

Postby celticmelody » June 1st, 2006, 7:07 am

Medifast said they do not recommend turkey sausage probably because of added sugars!

Well.....

I've found an alternative---MAKE YOUR OWN!!!

Start by adding 1/4 tsp EACH fennel seeds and dried sage to
1 pound ground turkey BREAST meat.

Make into patties. Fry in H20 & freeze in individual patties.

Voila! Homemade "sausage"

If you like 'em hot (like me) add red pepper flakes.
Like maple flavoring? Add some Da Vinci SF Maple syrup.

I make mine into big patties. Medifast said these were legal but, I shouldn't have them every day.

Your welcome, Gina!

I read somewhere in a los-fat low-carb cookbook that you can take pork tenderloin & run it through the foodprocessor to get lean "ground" pork.

Hmmmm.

I feel an experiment coming on!!!

I love sausage, so I may give this a shot. I have never purchased fennel seeds or dried sage before, but I'm sure it won't be that hard to find.

Is this a standard sausage flavor, or a breakfast sausage? I would love to find a breakfast sausage version.

It would depend on the nutrition info. Organic doesn't make it lower in fat or cals, unfortunately. Or even sugar-free.

A lot of readymade turkey sausage has added turkey or chicken fat, so even tough it's turkey, it might not be lean. Better to just use ground turkey and make it yourself.

:?: OK, here's where I don't understand. I'm new to MF, just started my 3rd day, and I want to do this right. What in the above recipe makes this not OK for every day, esp. if you use the 93% lean ground turkey breast? No added carbs or fats, so why the limitation? Thanks for any explanations!
