Spice Tales

I was just making a grocery list and I noticed that I was out of cinnamon ... AGAIN! I remember the day when my family would go through spice jars in years not weeks. This is a totally new mindset for me.

Ha. I know, I've started buying my cinnamon at Costco because they have such big jars. (Folks here recommended the cinnamon from Cinnabon, but the people at my local Cinnabon had no idea what I was talking about. The corporate folks said I'll need to talk to a manager and have him/her order it for me. ... Which, of course, I haven't bothered to do.)

BTW, on average how many bottles of DaVinci do you guys keep around? I have SEVEN lined up on my counter right now!!

I have been going through lemon pepper for all the chicken I have been eating. I hate fish & steak so chicken is it.

I have been going through the banana extract for my vanilla shakes. I finally ordered 3 bottles of DaVinci cause no stores around me have it. I got Banana, Peanut Butter, & Vanilla. What other flavors are good. I am looking forward to the peanut butter with my chocolate pudding. I am going to try the frozen kisses and see how they turn out.

The only flavor of Davinci I haven't cared for is the Chocolate. All the ones I have tried are yummy. If you can't find the syrups you can order them online at davinci gourmet. Our super walmart had 4 flavors of the sugar free, but I ordered mine. Also stock up on the extract flavors that you like they add ALOT of flavor. I just put some peppermint in my chocolate pudding, tasted like a thin mint.

Welcome to the forum!! You'll love it here

I'm not a fan of the peanut butter. Too fake for me. But I love the toasted hazelnut, toasted marshmallow, blueberry (for oatmeal) and caramel (mostly for the apple-cinnamon oatmeal). Also in my lineup right now are almond, macadamia nut (not as good as I'd hoped) and coconut (which I haven't tried yet).

I bought the SF Syrup Sample Pack to try out at first (raspberry, hazelnut, caramel, and vanilla). I loved them all so I ordered more syrups online and they just arrived. I now have Toasted Marshmallow, Cherry, Peppermint Paddy, White Chocolate, and the SF Lemon Tea. Haven't tried them all yet but am working on it. I also ordered the syrup pumps b/c I'm tired of all the measuring and spillage. Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty messy!

I love the pumps!! Makes it easy to get the same amount each time, too. My kitchen counter looks like a coffee bar. Without the coffee!

DogMa ... I know what you mean, except I do have the fancy, schmancy super-automatic espresso machine (the same type they have at most coffee shops where you press a button and the machine measures the beans, grinds the beans, tamps the beans, forces the pressurized water through the fine grind and into your cup). As you've probably guessed, coffee is pretty important to me and my husband so limiting caffeine intake has been a real challenge for me :-)

Amaretto
Butterscotch
Hazelnut, 1 @ work 1 @ home
Raspberry 1 @ work 1 @ home
German Choc Cake
English Toffee
Almond
Caramel, 1 @ work 1 @ home
Chocolate < the only one I don't really care for

I have my co-workers hooked on em too, They add them to their coffee now instead of the flavored creamer.

Extracts I have: ( I found some awsome extract flavors on the Watkins websight)
Chocolate
Peppermint < yummy in choc pudding and Choc shake
Butter Pecan
Butter
Cherry
Pinneapple
Rum
Almond
Raspberry
Vanilla

With all this you can have a different shake every day of the month!! I love concocting up new ones! :chef:

Oh, I forgot my new bottle of praline. Good in chocolate pudding!

Is butterscotch good?

S/F syrups

Postby Jan » March 26th, 2006, 1:50 pm

Well now,
I happen to live close to a store called "Cash and Carry" They have a whole long isle -- probably 40+ feet of s/f and other syrups. Soooo I have soooo many s/f syrups I can no longer keep them on my kitchen counter. I simply ran out of room. Now I'm heading off to the store to buy a wine rack on which to store my collection of syrups. I'm not a wine drinker so I never thought one would grace my home. But it's coming and I guess I'd better look for a big one

That IS a good idea! I had to move mine from my counter this weekend, and I only have 6!

I've never used spices like I'm using them now either. I've been keeping my eye out for a good spice rack with cute, airtight jars. Went to Ikea, but theirs wouldn't fit my space. All the other stores just have the same ole kind as each other... A spinny carousel thingy. I wish I could find one for the wall behind my stove, which is tiled. I know people say that's not the best place - the heat, splatters, etc... But I use them so much now that I doubt anything would have time to go bad (i.e. lose their strength). I've given up on it for now... Let me know if you have any ideas...
