I have nothing to add here, either, except my support. The one thing I do know is hair loss was pretty common among folks on my Atkins message board, way back when. The consensus there was that it was just the rapid weight loss. I've heard of it happening on other programs, too, so I don't think it's a problem specific to Medifast by any means.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the support. It is a very perplexing situation. My doctor is working with me on the hair and weight issues. I still have a lot of weight to lose and I know I need to continue to diet and exersize. I may need to switch to another plan for a couple of months until I see some improvement with the hair loss.

Just when I start to think that my doctor has turned herself around and is getting good, she screws up AGAIN!

I received a message from the resource center (they provide nutrition classes and counseling) and that I should call ASAP because my doctor had referred me to them. I called and called and could not reach anyone. Finally at 5pm they called me back. The woman said she needed to schedule a class so I could learn to use a meter. I asked her what the heck she was talking about and she said that now that I have been diagnosed with diabetes I have to learn to use a meter, I said I don't know anything about this. She said my doctor should have met with me to discuss the diagnosis and treatment. I told her I had the tests done 2 weeks ago and had heard nothing about the results. I also said I did not think it was appropriate for her to be the one to break the news to me over the phone. I understand she was just trying to schedule the classes (one for the meter, 2 for nutrition & meal planning and 2 for learning about diabetes and what I might need to change to live with it) but holy crap that was a shock or me to hear.

She asked if I had received my test results, NO I had not! So she was nice enough to look them up for me and let me know what was up. She said the results do not show diabetes but pre-diabetes. She said no medication is being prescribed just lifestyle and diet changes. I apologized for taking my anger out on her and she was very nice about saying she understood and it must have been disappointing, etc, etc.

I filed a complaint today against my doctor. I have no idea how this news will impact my medifast plan but I will find out next week when I meet with the diabetes resource team.

Wow!

Well, pre-diabetes is a different animal than diabetes. What a scare! You must've been flabbergasted! Are you finding a new doc? Let us know what happens!

Good thing you just happen to be on one of the best "diets" around for diabetes....:)

Keep us posted.

What an awful glitch in communication! I am sorry you went through that! Unca, is right though. This is a great plan for diabetics. I get my official blood work done on Monday but I am pretty sure I will be taken off my diabetic meds. When I started Medifast my fasting blood sugar (when you get up in the mornings) was 100-125 which is diabetic to pre-diabetic range. They used to be in the 200 range when I was boozing. I just took it RIGHT now (I haven't eaten yet) and it is 73, which is NORMAL. So good luck!

Well, I filed a complaint against my doctor but they will most likly not switch me to another (HMO madness!)

I have always been afraid of diabetes because my dad was a type 1 diabetic (diagnosed when he was a child) and my older sister is a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed as a teen. Growing up in a diabetic household was not fun.

My last test had my blood glucose at 120. They said 100-125 is pre diabetes. I am just going do whatever it takes to get it under control and not let it interfere with my good life.

Thanks for the support! That is why I LOVE this forum!
