Off for a week :(

Postby Indigo » February 5th, 2004, 9:50 am

I've had to go off of medifast for a week while I take some heavy duty antibiotics for a strep throat infection :( I'm not happy. . . . but I see my doctor tomorrow, and can hopefully go back on this Sunday. sigh.
I haven't been eating junk, but I felt SO much better on medifast!!!

Send good thoughts . . .

A soon to be 'newbie' again. . . .

Sorry to hear your not feeling well. Why did you have to go off Medifast for the antibiotics?
Hope you get better quick and get back on track! :)

My question also... Not to be off base, Medifast is taking food, and "better than thou" nutrition than what we were eating? What is food going to do, other than maybe to settle a stomach, that Medifast would not?

Tim?

We tried a 'lighter' antibiotic, but then I had to go onto erythromycin- and it's notoriously hard on your stomach, even when you eat food. . . .

Mike, I understand the point you are trying to make, However-

After missing almost a week from work, my physician and I made an informed decision that we felt was necessary to get rid of a bad infection. It wasn't an issue of nutrition, it was an issue of being able to keep the antibiotic down long enough to have any effect.

I appreciate your belief that all problems are overcome by 'sticking it out' on the fast. In most cases, that's true. But sometimes unexpected things happen, and we do the best we can in the situation.

Getting back into fasting (again) is going to be challenging for me- being able to talk through things on this forum is an important part of making it work . . . and I'd appreciate your support and understanding.

Laurie,
Enough said I have a hard time with erythro even when I eat. It tears my stomach up. Get well quick!

Ok.. to avoid getting into a posting battle, I appreciate your appreciation, however... I do not have the beleif that all problems are overcome by 'sticking it out' I never said that, nor would I ever, nor have I ever.

Additionally, you have my support, always, and do not have to ask for it.

I do understand NOW, though I did not about your meds. I have never had to take any real medication, and am not too smart in this department, thus I had a question mark after Tim's name, soliciting his input.

I can't argue with a Doctor about anti-biotics, but Medifast is a Medically approved "food" and "should" work as good as any food to dampen the effects of the meds on your tummy. Personally, I'd just schedule the meds with one of my regular Medifast meals, but that's me.

You could email one of our nurses at judy@medifastdiet.com, for a professional opinion on the question.

Anti-biotics do have there place, I guess, but personally, I refuse to take them unless I'm dying of gang-green or something some day (knock on wood). I haven't taken them for 30 years.

After you're through with your meds, you might want to look for those little bugs that live in your stomach that you'll destroy with the anti-biotics. They're very important to digestion and your immune system. You should be able to find them in pill form at your health food store. (They're in Yogurt, but better not eat yogurt while on the plan)

I like to think my bods capable of fighting off disease and infections on it's own, thank you....:)

Indigo,

You have my prayers for a speedy recovery. I also had trouble when I had to take Tylenol III, I took it with my shake, but still got very nauseated  . I understand and YES, we do what we have to do.

When you are ready to begin again, come here and let us help you.

GET WELL SOON, and please, if you feel like it, continue to post. :D
