Postby Nancy » December 18th, 2006, 1:18 pm

Hullo Everybuddy ~

:yippee: Wahoo! Have I a super announcement for you!

:coach: Medifast announces their latest meal replacement product:

:hatch: Scrambled Eggs :hatch:

Yassiree, Folks! This new meal replacement is perfect for people on the 5 & 1 Program; it’s lactose free and also formulated for diabetics.

Here’s the skinny on the Scrambled Eggs meal replacement

Price: $14.50 per box

~ Nutrition Facts ~

AVERAGE PER SERVING / AVERAGE % DAILY VALUE

Total Fat 2 g / 3%

Total Carbohydrate 10 g / 3%

Dietary Fiber 5 g / 20% (I think that's cool, real eggs have no fiber)

We tried them here at the MakeMeThinner Cottage – our recommendations are:

We like them best when prepared with a whisk or a fork and then cooked stovetop in a small non-stick pan. Yep, we tried cooking them the ‘quick and dirty’ way – in the shaker jar and had varying degrees of success. They were way too moist for my likes.

Terry prepared them in a shallow microwave-proof dish and we learned that one must nuke for a short time, stir, nuke, & stir, nuke and stir to get them to the consistency we like best.

We like them with chives and Molly McCheese or with salsa or served with green or red Tabasco. Awesome!

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and while I know that some of you may prefer them fried and sunnyside up or poached but it is nice to have ‘strangled eggs’ for a change.

I haven’t taken the time to do a comparison between the Medifast Scrambled Eggs, Egg Substitutes and good ole real eggs. Egg substitutes are usually made of pasteurized egg whites, oil and food coloring. When we want to have eggs, we have them and my experience with egg substitutes is practically nil. As a general rule, I don’t keep eggs on hand unless we are going to have company and make a Crab or Shrimp Louis or a spinach salad but I do like the idea of being able to grab a meal replacement packet and fix it quickly.

I look forward to hearing from others about their experiences and reading your recipes in the Lean Cuisine.

Surely Mike has his chef's hat on already! :chef:

:hmmm: Oh, I tired the Scrambled Eggs this afternoon with part of a sliced green onion and a partial spritz of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.

I liked it that way but my fave is with Tabasco or Frank's Hot Sauce. :redhead:

Well, bdg...In honor of your tree-mendous weight loss and that of Jolie's, too, I just shipped you two boxes of the new Strangled Eggs. I had planned to send them overnight so you would get them for sure but  the price to do so was [gulp] $51.65 so I sent them 2nd Day for half that price, Kids. I hope you get them on Friday before you blast off for Christmas and Holiday Happies with your thinnin' family!

:chef: Enjoy!

That's that awesome Leopard woman for ya. Something that is somewhat of a tradition in my family is chorizo and eggs (don't quite remember why). I usually make a batch with like 10 eggs, and make burritos with some refried beans. Yummy.
Perhaps a tablespoon of just chorizo mixed in with these scrambled eggs would have an acceptable taste. We shall see.

I guess as a treat but the chorizo we have down in Texas is so tasty because of the oozing orange grease it emits when cooked. I am half Mexican so the dish was a tradition in my family too. Another popular Mexican dish is cow's brains with eggs but I have never eaten it. A perhaps leaner L&G option that still has Mexican flavor is Nopalitos Con Huevos-scrambled eggs with cactus. No pricklies it is the inside of the cactus. It comes canned unless you have some cactus growing nearby. It is a Tex Mex favorite. You can add garlic and green chilis and it is quite yummy.

You'll have to let me know. Growing up in South Texas, that is something I grew up (and out) with.

Nancy, Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. Looking forward to trying them and I know the family is too. We have already caused about 3 or 4 orders for the "strangled" eggs just by passing the information on to our people. This is obviously a product that will be in demand.

Again, thanks!

I always cook the chorizo first and then strain and pat out as much fat as possible. I also use Farmer John brand which is meatier and with a big less fat than the other brands. Just gonna try it and see if with these eggs it will work. Just 1 T for some flavor.

Carumbah, Mike ~

You have it down! I think you will come up with even more amazing recipes, especially for maintenance peeps. Thanks for the suggestion and the name of the lean chorizo.

I had never had chorizo until the early 90's when I was teaching a Slingerland Multi-sensory class in San Antonio for the summer. The teachers arrived early to my class with 'tea buckets' from Bill Miller drive-in restaurants and breakfast burritos in tow. In my neck of the woods, we slurp dark roast coffee laced with cream and sugar and bagels with melted cheese and hunks of bacon or hot crusty scones for breakfast! (Uh, that is before Medifast of course.)

As I was preparing for the morning demonstrations, writing the boardwork and going over my lecture notes, they were munching out in the back of the room. Sheesh! Just thinking of those dang breakfast burritos activates my olfactories…I am sniffin’ the air - weird-o-lah how I can mentally go back there to that time...

Isn’t it fun to think of ways to adapt recipes in healthier ways? It is so important for us to do that, too – life involves food and we do not need to totally avoid food in our futures, we just need to learn how to eat in healthful ways.

I just got off the phone with Amber and she was describing the way she made some CHRSITmas cookies using Splenda and egg beaters. She is being proactive and I love that about her. She worked very hard to lose weight and is doing her best to keep it away.

Healthier alternatives – that’s what we must look for and use. I told her that I am in a perilous time so I shall not bake any cookies or candy for holiday gatherings because I feel weak – I must prevent a ‘situation’ from arising so I shall not touch dough this week. I appreciate how she encouraged me and all of you, too ~ we need one another to speak words of success and encouragement into one another.

It is wonderful that we have so many meal replacement options now and all of you contribute such wonderful ideas – you guys rock!

Hmmm…Mike, maybe you can come up with a breakfast burritos using a romaine lettuce leaf rather than a tortilla, some green chilies, etc. Oh, yeah! Si, si!

Funny thing is I talked with Joelie about doing this a week or two ago with turkey taco meat. (Turkey that I add seasoning to making it taco meat.) I figure why not, but so far I have used my turkey taco meat to just make a taco salad without the shell. Good stuff.
