MeatLoaf...

Postby Mom2three » September 20th, 2006, 2:51 pm

My kids really like my meatloaf I make, but was trying to figure out what to use in place of the saltine crackers I put in it. Any suggestions? Would a high fiber cereal work? Or oatmeal?

Thanks for any ideas!!

I have always used oats in my meatloaf. My family loves it. And, I know the oats are not medifast approved, but I choose to eat it anyway. TOTALLY your choice, though!!

Supermom - when you say oats, do you mean like the quaker oatmeal?
I'm just looking for something thats lower in carbs, thats all. I know my grandmother use to use corn flakes in her meatballs, which made me think of the cereal. I'm willing to try non-approved stuff.... my family needs to eat too - and if its a little off plan, thats okay with me, just want something better than the saltine crackers!

How's the weather your area of TX this morning? I'm in the Dallas area...

Thanks!

The problem with adding carbs to your diet is the threat of kicking you out of ketosis. The Medifast diet is specially formulated to keep you in a very mild state of ketosis, so even a few off plan carbs may be all it takes to make you feel hunger and risk going further off plan.

Why not make your usual meatloaf for your family and have a hamburger yourself? The meatloaf will be there when you're in maintenance.

We use the Medifast Crackers! Yum! Works great.

Serendipity - That was why I was seeing if there was any low carb substitutes, but I do like your suggestion of the hamburger, or maybe I just make two loaves, one with the crackers and one without any.

Its funny I was thinking about my normal "meatloaf" meal for my family, a salad, meatloaf, baked potatoes, corn.... I think the salad is the only thing I could have, LOL!! But I must admit its one of my kids favorites, one of the few my daughter will tell me "good dinner mom!!".

And I must say "WOW" to your weight loss.... that is truely amazing!

Yes, I just use quaker oats. But, I don't use much. MAYBE 1/4 cup in a 2 1/2 pound meatloaf. I use egg or egg beaters to help keep it together too.

But Jo is right. It is not on plan, and it could cause you problems. I am not advising you to use it, just telling you what I do. You have to make the choice, though!!

I use medifast crackers, egg and mushrooms, and some grated parmesan cheese to help hold it together
Pre WLS 460
Low after WLS 300
Start of MF 350
Previous MF low 280
Restart MF 330

meatloaf

Postby furball7 » October 21st, 2006, 10:13 am

Hi, How much of the meatloaf can you eat if you mix it up with the medi crackers, ff parm cheese and egg? This sounds so good. I'm looking for something else to eat besides chicken dishes.

Thanks, Sherry
