Hey Gang! ......Need Some Advice!

Hi All,
Need some advice. I'll brief you on the situation, then see what you guys think. Saw a friend that I hadn't seen in about a month, since our Labor Day party (pre M.F.) at 218 lbs. They said, "You look great. I can tell you lost weight!" I said, " Thanks......I've lost 20 lbs. and haven't cheated in 3 1/2 weeks since I started. (didn't go into detail about the plan) They said, Oh, you don't want to lose too fast, that's not good for you plus you don't want to be too restrictive because that will lead to binging." Being that I still have at least 50 lbs. more to lose , I just thanked them for noticing the 20 lbs. I had lost at the time and we then started talking about other things. So that is the first thing that started messing with my mind. Second is ....since I still have alot of weight to lose, I will be on plan for a while. How do you not get bored of the M.F. foods after a while? I know there is variety, but you guys that have been on plan for a long time no what I mean. Can you share how you've kept on plan even when sometimes the variety of regular food may be tempting? I would appreciate some advice from the successful "veterns" since today is only my 1 month anniversary staying with M.F. Which for me is a long time! Sometimes I miss just cooking a really delicious dinner that everyone likes, for my family, without having to think about making some thing for me on the side or what's allowed what's not, and just sitting down at the dinningroom table with everyone and enjoying myself. I'm still a "rookie" though and could use some advice from the more experienced. I feel good. I'm still on plan. TOM will arrive any day now. At least PMS will be ending! Thanks! :D

To address your first concern.....you were talking to someone who knew nothing about the Medifast program. Yes, if you starve yourself and lose alot of weight fast, it's not good, but Medifast is a balanced program with the backing of major medical institutions.....don't give it another thought. Exercise will help to keep your motabolism up. BTW, I have not been sick for one day in the last year I've been on program!

As for the variety of the Medifast products boring me? Did not happen for me. Medifast became a way of life for me. I love most of the products and when I get a little bored, I make my L& G special by having crab legs or lobster or having my veggies a different way. I just don't pin as much importance on food anymore. Each time I see something that I used to dive into head first, all it takes is the memory of how it used to be (I was a fat blob, to put it bluntly) to keep me on track.

Being thin is soooooo much better than all of that goo. Believe me. And remember, these things aren't out of your life forever if you still want them. Maintenance is the place for them in moderation.

Thanks Jo for being there for me so quickly when I really needed ya! And thanks for helping a "rookie" put everything back into proper perspective again! When I was reading your post, it was like a "mama bird" swooping down and catching her "baby bird" falling from the nest! :hatch: I'm going to keep this post on my refrigerator door, where I can see it all the time. I don't think that I can answer your question any better, but congratulations on having some one notice.

As for getting bored, it has happened to me, and I am only 2 1/2 months in. When that happens, I make pancakes out of the oatmeal, or "icecream" out of the pudding. I always feel better. As for regular food, there are tons of options in the lean cusine section that ALWAYS inspire me.

I wrote Nancy's quote on a paper and stuck it into my wallet to help me along when I am having a tempting moment.

Hey, KMR-

I think I qualify as a veteran now, too, huh? I am coming up on a year of Medifast as of November 10th, so if food boredom were to come, I am thinking I would've had it! :-)

First of all, ditto on everything Jo said. In fact, ditto on everything Jo says all the time, forever, no matter what! ha She and I seem to have been on the same page since day 1.

Yeah, don't let naysayers get into your head - they don't know Medifast, and more importantly, they don't know YOU. Just totally disregard the comments, they're of no value to you. Oh, and I've only been sick once in my year on this, and it was at the very beginning of MF, so I will attest to the health that I've had too!

My feelings towards the food may be slightly different from Jo's (huh? no way!!), because I still think about my meals and food, I just totally look forward to my medi-meals and L&Gs now, instead of crap! I am totally not kidding, my friends make fun of me that they can hear me making "mmmm" sounds when I eat! This goes for both the MF and the L&Gs! The longer you are on the program, the more your palette adjusts to the food, and the more it becomes something you enjoy. Instead of telling yourself you "have to have" another MF meal, say, "Ooh, I am excited for my Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal today!" I know you think I am full of it, but I SWEAR that I still get excited for my oatmeal, puddings, and bars. Excited. Literally. And I still love my different L&Gs each day, grilled chicken or salmon with salad, grilled veggies, whatever! I love it all!

I never tell myself I have to eat this way, I tell myself I look forward to eating it, and I do! Instead of thinking that you are constantly making a sacrifice, realize you are constantly making awesome choices for yourself, choices that taste good and are good for you!

I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating. I quit smoking about a year and a half ago, and then began Medifast almost a year ago. For the first time in so long, I actually can go to sleep at night, every night, proud of myself. I lay my head down on the pillow knowing that I have taken care of myself and loved myself. It's a pretty new but totally amazing feeling, and I assure you it's the best sleep I've gotten!

I have been on Medifast for about 4 months and I completely agree with Lauren. I love my L&Gs and I am planning to eat these types of foods (lean meats, veggies and good carbs when I am on maintenance) for the rest of my life. I have found the supplements I enjoy and truthfully, I like the food. This plan has become a pleasant routine, not a "diet" but a healthy way of eating that is producing real results. I am also learning new skills and gaining new perspective about food as fuel, etc.

I haven't experienced any negative comments about Medifast, but then only a handful of people know I am doing it. If people choose to make uninformed or malicious comments in the future, who cares, because the proof is in my success and heath. I know it works for me.

I think you will encounter people with many different opinions about weight loss, too quick, too slow etc. People may say things that seem insensative, rude or just wrong. What I have done is arm myself with knowledge and respond to comments with positive feedback (about what I know about Medifast). You are doing soooo great hang in their!

Hi KMR,

It is always great when others notice your weight loss. You have been so great about keeping track and posting your NSV's why do you think these comments are messing with your mind? I think that frenimies like this need to be ignored and avoided cuz who needs that negativity in their life?! I did not realize that some of my "friends" were frenimies until recently. I went to lunch with one of them and she asked me if I had changed my hair because their was something different about me (this after 70 pounds lost!!) I only talk with her professionally now and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

I am getting totally bored with the routine (not the food) I started to switch up my eating routine and now the weight is not coming off as quickly. I am not giving up because I still have almost 100 pounds to lose. It is a simple program but sometimes it is not easy.

I really appreciate that you started this thread. Getting the feedback from all the successful veterans is very valuable.

Keep on shaken and stay strong! You are fabulous! You have so much positive support (especially that great husband of yours!) you are doing it and you will get past this bump and make it to your goal.

For me, I used to use a variety of foods, but have come to terms with what I like and I stick with those few items.
My variety comes from trying lots of different things for the L&G. That keeps things interesting. Try some of the recipes posted here, or come up with your own.
Use the support, and you will survive. Heck with the naysayers. ;)

I don't think I'm yet a veteran since I'm not even a month ahead of you, but I'm prone to boredom. Keep in mind that my dh is a man married to routine!! (Well, ok, he's married to moi, and I'm ANYTHING but routine!! I married him for the stabilizing factor. :mrgreen:) He's also the one that packs the "lunches." I'm more of a flitterer -- sometimes I don't know WHAT I want until I've taken 2 bites of something else, so Mike packs TWICE as much as I will actually eat before we get home (I think I had the same Banana Creme packet in my lunch bag for 3 weeks).

We bought some of the DaVinci SF syrups and we have a FULL spice rack. When I get bored with the medigrub, I try fixing it differently (blend it with ice and soda water or diet soda, add spices and/or flavorings -- believe it or not, a pinch of salt in the sweet stuff changes it!) If I find out after bite 2 that it wasn't really what I wanted, or it was a total disaster of an experiment, I've got another choice coming 'round in about 3 hours. (And on a few, rare occassions, I've dumped the vile thing and started over.)

As for those who think this is unhealthy, as Dr. Anderson explained in a meeting in Portland last weekend, most folks are refering to what they might remember of concentration camp victims or those who tried medically supervised fast programs about 30 years ago. Those were, indeed, unhealthy and people actually died from them. This is NOT a fast, you DON'T look like a concentration camp victim, but it's human nature to want to keep those you know and care about -- even if a distance caring -- safe from harm. Such warnings were invaluable thousands of years ago. "Don't go that way -- there's a really mean fire-breathing dragon that charbroiled my brother-in-law last week."

I think your approach is right on -- thank them for noticing, change the topic. Most adults need more than a rebut to change their minds. Give 'em time. They might come around. (For the record, I think it took my aunt 8 months to consider that this might not be the worst thing in the world my sister and I could do for ourselves. Dayna's lost over 100 lbs, I've lost almost 80 and my absentee record at work has gone from an average of 7 days a quarter to 1, as in singular.)

Thanks everyone for the fantastic responses and advice! I think I have to go back and print this whole thread it's so good! With all the invaluble support and advice! I think I'll fold it up and keep in in my purse so I can take it everywhere I go. When I need it I'll just whip it out! I have Jo's first response on my refrigerator door and it makes me smile when I see her pretty smiling face (avatar) smiling back at me. It makes me think,"I can do this!" There's no amount of money in the world that can buy the support, concern, and caring as the good people of this forum give! :D
