First 2 days

Postby Lissakay » January 25th, 2005, 2:10 pm

Things are tough right now. I am a teacher and am located in a portable room on the outskirts of our campus. I can't keep going to the bathroom, it is simply not possible! I can't keep leaving my students. Is it okay to do all of your drinking in the afternoon?

I am having those first couple of day symptoms I have read about, massive headache, and a gurggly tummy (even though I took a supplement to help digest the lactose). I am going to hang in and see how things are in a week or so.

I guess the first couple of days are bound to be tough. It is a big change. A hamburger sure would be good about now :dooh: I guess that is what started this problem.

Hi Lissa,

Well, the potty break thing is definitely an issue. I do a sort of reverse of your schedule - I drink heavily (heehee) all day until about 8pm - when I stop - because I get really grumpy if I have to get up umpteen times in the night. Maybe you can do the opposite - drink moderately during the day and then heap it on at night???

I *THINK* that the RTD's are lactose-free but would ask confirmation of that from Nancy.....

There is usually a way to work around these issues, you just have to be determined to stick to it, and not let the problems become excuses to quit (which is all too easy to do). Once you get some success under your belt, you'll start to feel more positive, and that makes ALL the difference in the world.

I'm on day 2 as well, so I hear you on the headache part :bricks: I'm also exhausted. I really hopes this goes away soon or I'll never be able to do this.

I don't have very good potty access either where I work. I drink *some* water during the day, but I chug mostly in the evening. I remember from previous diets that eventually I've gotten used to the increase in fluid and not gotten bothered so much by it.

UGH! How much longer 'till I feel human again?!?!?!?! :hammerhead:

I took an Advil first thing in the morning for my first four days, because I couldn't afford to have a headache at work. It worked; no problem.

Oh, and the first three days are the worst. So hang in there!

I felt horrible until about 1/2 way through the 4th day. The third day was AGONY - I was very weak, huge headache, and at times thought I wasn't going to be able to do it. But then I'd have a shake and give myself a stern talking to and I have to say, it's not bad now looking back at it from day 10.

These first days are the hardest -- just push yourself through it and don't give in. When you feel like you can't do it, just pop into the forum and read a chat string. That'll help and by day 4 you will be chugging your shakes and bouncing with energy!!!!

I read the horror stories of the 2nd, 3rd and or 4th day and wonder, am I going to be able to make it through a day at work, or have most of you started MF so those days fall on weekends/days off? I have a feeling my 3rd day is going to be Monday (uggg....they're so nasty anyways), and then Tuesday is my first day back to class, so have a 7am - 10 pm day... oh boy!

I started on a Monday, and had very little trouble. Don't forget that if you get desperate you can have an extra shake. Take an Advil in the morning to forestall a headache. Figure out the maximum allowable food you can have, and have it ready and accessible. Two cups of bouillon. Three stalks of celery. Two dill pickles. The one thing about starting on a weekday is that you aren't sitting around the house being on a diet and feeling sorry for yourself. You have distractions.

Good luck!

A few words of wisdom here…. Remember, it is only 2-3-4 days. Some have the “blahs” and some don’t. Some have headaches, and grumbling stomachs, and some don’t It is only a few days. If you are new, and preparing, and think your going to have trouble, then it only adds to the probability that you will. Make sense? How many diets and programs have we all been on, where we have never made it to day 2 or 3 or even 4? Tons of times right? We look back, and say, gosh, if I had only made it, where would I be now? Go into this with rock solid commitment. This is IT. This is the last time you will ever feel like this, and trust a person that has SEEN IT ALL, 3 days ain’t nothin’.

This is a brand new day. Brand new program, for a BRAND NEW YOU!

Trust me, it IS worth it!

Hey, hey Lisakay. How's it going today?
Wow, sounds like one of those cheers the kids do, doesn't it?

I'm just hangin out, waitin for my MF stuff to get here. Getting my mind all set to go though........planning timing, etc., and have been drinking all my water the last 4 days so there won't be so many new things to get used to at the same time.

Hope you're doing well...........Vicki

Mike, have you always been this inspirational, I mean, even before you found MF and kicked yourself in the butt to the tune of 100#? I'm jus' wonderin', because I sure could've used you these past 30 years to make lots of other important decisions in my life!

Thanks for all your posts here. I'm new here, but I feel like I know you after reading so many of your thoughts and comments. What's it like to be relied upon by dozens of faceless strangers??? ;)

Thanks, Mike!

Mike, have you always been this inspirational…

Funny, I have always been the loud one, guessing it was caused by the weight, and trying to lead away from the fat, to perhaps something else? When I entered a room (and still do) you know Mike is there. Easy to look back, and think maybe this is the reason why? Beats me. I can honestly say, I like me. Conceited? You bet. Why? Because I can.

What's it like to be relied upon by dozens of faceless strangers???

Guido says: HE** yes, this is my harem! Woe the soul that steps on any of my groups toes. Guido likes the fun!

Mike says: Been fat 90% of my life, uncomfortable, embarrassed for every reason you know.

NOW life is different. Someone overweight telling you they are happy, is plain lying to you. Any of you that know/knew life before fat, should be kicking yourselves in the rear, knowing what you have done. Knowing the difference in the feeling from fat to thin. For those of you (like me) that never knew what thin felt like, there is NO explanation. It is pure adrenalin. Still to this day, (maintenance for 388 days) nary an hour of any waking day goes by where something does not cause me to think about my weight. Same rule applies to being overweight. Tell me in all honesty, nary an hour goes by where you don’t loathe most situations, and think about it, avoiding every mirror, every camera, every public food venue. You do, I know you do.

Being thin is probably right up there in the clouds with being a parent, you just can’t explain how it feels, until you have been there.

I can tell you this, pass me the razor, cause I would have shaved my (d)red-locks in a heart beat if I could have felt like I do now, years ago.

Relied on? I just want everyone to feel this: (say it with me) E-U-P-H-O-R-I-A. And be faithful to Medifast. There is no other. I have been there done that, round the block 1000 times. Nancy and Tim provide an outlet for us to vent, complain, praise, and learn.

Priceless!

Points well taken, Mike. I'm about halfway through day 4 and feeling better. I've just never felt like that starting a diet before. My problem was mostly the headaches. I don't get regular headaches, I get migraines  and I was stuck at work for twelve long hours. Except for that, it really wasn't that bad. More PMS-like than anything else (for those of you who would know).

I think of it this way....I'm darn well going to stay compliant because I certainly don't want to go through the last few days again if I can at all avoid it!

Well, then-- Start makin' room at the top of Mount Thin, Mike (and Guido, too)! Cuz a bunch of us are gonna be joining you in the *very* near future. Can't wait to get up there and soak in the view.

Just a few more steps, a few more shakes, a few (hundred) more glasses of water... Just being on the right path makes me feel amazing-- I am *doing* something about my flabbage! I am *moving* in the right direction! I am *hauling* my fat arse up that mountain! And if I get there, and I'm bald, so BE it!

I getting ready to start on MF and ordered my food today. I have a desk job, so there's easy access to the ladies' room, a place I know very well since I'm on a diuretic

I will be receiving my "groceries" about Wednesday, so I have the option of starting Thursday, or waiting for the weekend, where I can suffer the indignities of the first three days in relative quiet and darkness  . Or do I start on Thursday and just suck it up and take the Advil and tough it out? :x

Rae - I was born and raised in Alexandria, VA. How's my hometown doing?
