Another Body Bugg question-does it track your pace when you run or walk? My husband is trying to convince me to get a Garmin Forerunner, instead of the Body Bugg, it tracks calories, pace, heart rate and maps your run/walk/bike rides. It is much cheaper, but I just don't think it will help me as much as the Bugg. I am trying to figure out to increase my pace when (and if ever again) I am outside running. The treadmill is deceptively easy to make you think you are faster than you really are. The closet Sprouts to me is the one on Legacy and Coit and the Whole Foods on Preston/Park. Supposedly there is a Sprouts opening in McKinney, but they have been saying that for two years now. There will be a Whole Foods in Allen in 2010...I should go take advantage of the slight breeze that is blowing and ride around the block a few times. It is still not as effective as running though...I don't think anything is.

Nope. It doesn't do heart rate or pace or anything like that. It counts steps, but very poorly. It's really just for calorie counting, and it supposedly does a much better job of that than any of the other devices. Other than the Go Wear Fit, which is made by the same company and is basically the exact same thing. I've heard it's cheaper, but I'm not sure anymore since the BB seems to be on permanent sale.

It's funny, because every time I do a 5K, I'm actually FASTER than I am on the treadmill.

Doc appt today. He didn't even want to run blood tests, since they've been so good the past few years. And he says I've lost 12 pounds since I saw him just over a year ago (but maybe I had just eaten before I got weighed last time or something, because I haven't lost that much).

Good job! It's always reassuring to get a praise from the doctor!

Yeah, he's nuts, though. He gave me a prescription for beta blockers, to slow my heart when I run (to see if it improves my endurance). I think he's insane.

Meanwhile, I had a heck of a weekend. Teemu got sick, and I spent all day yesterday sharing a dog crate with him at the vet's office, while he was hooked to an IV with fluids and antibiotics because his liver enzymes were off the charts and he was a little jaundiced. They think it's a bad infection of some sort that he picked up from some standing water in the yard (I found what must be a leak in the sprinkler system Sunday). Highly contagious to other dogs AND to humans.

Sorry to hear Teemu's so sick, but if it's contagious to humans, wouldn't you have been better served NOT sharing the dog crate with him? :-) I hope you stay well, if only to test out those beta blockers. ha.

Ha. Yeah, the vet people all had to wear gloves when they touched him. But he's so afraid of crates, I couldn't just leave him there. Whenever he has to stay, I sit inside with him so we can leave the door open (at one point they just closed it part of the way so they could get through, and he freaked out and hid behind me). I figure I'm around him all the time, so if I haven't gotten it yet, I'm probably not going to.

I e-mailed the cardiologist for his opinion on the drugs, but I really don't think I'm going to even try them. Artificially lower my heart rate and blood pressure, which are already pretty darn low (when I'm NOT running, that is)? Seems like a stupid idea to me. It's not like they only work for an hour. So what happens when I'm done running and my heart rate and bp plummet? The practice is actually banned by the Olympics and many other sports organizations. And it's not like I'm trying to compete or something.

I agree-your doctor is insane. Why would he even do that? I mean if it drops to low, that's what you will do, drop and pass out. I am assuming that you have a large dog (Great Dane, Bernese Mountain Dog) to fit in the crate? I know you are tiny, but my dog's crate (she's red heeler) is not that big. I feel bad for your doggy, but I must admit the image of someone curled up in the crate with the dog, made me smile. Hope the doggy gets better!

Ha. No, no, he's a blue heeler mix; the crate was the stacked kind at the vet hospital. I don't use a crate for him at home because he's so terrified of them. (But next time I think there's even a chance that he has to stay there, I'm bringing a dog bed or pillow or something for both of us to sit on. Nine hours in a metal crate with just a couple of towels to sit on was NOT pleasant.) The good news is he's doing very well on the medication and has his appetite back, and he hasn't thrown up in two days. But he suddenly has an aversion to cheese, which previously was his favorite food.

The weird thing with the beta blockers is I asked the cardiologist. He's out of town, but his nurse practitioner answered and SHE said she thought it would be good to try them. I asked whether it could drop my heart rate or bp too low, and she said maybe, but that I should just be sure to drink lots of water, and if I felt bad afterward I should just rest. I'm still worried, though, since I live alone. If I got off the treadmill and passed out, I don't think the dogs would be much help.

Meanwhile, we had a wellness fair at work today so I got my weight/body fat checked by the dietitians. They said I was 125.8, even though I was still 126.4 at home (and still dying to get below 126!). And my body fat has dropped to 23.6 percent (they said the desired range for my age is 23 percent to 34 percent, although I'm shooting for closer to 21 or 22). And then the dietitian saw the BodyBugg and started asking about it. She said her BMR is very low, according to the machine, and she wanted to know how many calories I burn in a day and what my BMR was (the machine said 1267, although when I did the other BMR testing with them, it was more like 1100). I said it's hard to compare, since I'd have to wear the Bugg for a full day without doing anything, and I never have days like that.

Finally back to 126 even; I can't believe it took me two weeks to recover from one bad eating day (and it wasn't even that bad!!). But now maybe I can start inching my way BELOW there.

Yay!!! Way to go and keep on truckin'. Maybe now your metabolism will bounce back and the dropping will be easier? Hope springs eternal?

I've pretty much given up hope of THAT happening. I've done everything they say to do to increase metabolism for three or four years now. Heck, it still takes me a full two weeks to recover from one bad (or really semi-bad; I never go all that crazy) day. Sigh. :x

Anyway, that said, I hit 125.8 today. Took a day off from the treadmill, though (first time in three weeks!), so I'll probably be right back up tomorrow. But we'll see. At least it's something.

No time to post, since I'm headed for the treadmill. But I just had to mention my weight this morning. Ahem. Everyone listening?
