I don't come CLOSE to the workouts they do. I usually do 45 minutes in the morning on workdays, plus about half an hour for the tape at work (one day a week it's more like 50 minutes). And then the gym is usually just one night after work plus on the weekend. Nowhere near the hours they seem to spend in the gym - and I never, ever puke. I never even come close, unless it's a machine that you have to lie face-down on, but that has nothing to do with how hard I'm working and everything to do with being in an uncomfortable position.

I don't think I do as much as people THINK I do - it's just that I'm very consistent about it.

:brickwall: Oh, Man!

I missed it AGAIN! :x

I liked reading your comments.
I so wanted to see it and I forgot iit was on.

 Unca was here :puter: working on my puny 'puter 'til the late :snooze: night hour and I was on the phone with techNO support for 2.5 hours dealing with my  crashing PDA.

I’ve seen the show sporadically over the last seasons; it always fills me with admiration for the participants.

The contestants are to be :trophy: commended for appearing in their underdoodies on TV.
I was too ashamed to appear in my skivvies in a darkened room in front of my hubby or dress in front of my daughter when I had confiscated her :glasses: spectacles!

They have cojones (Hmm..is that the appropriate word? Forgive moi!) to bare their midriffs.
On nat'l TV.
I don't want anybody seeing my midriff!

I admire them for separating from their families, leaving behind their routine, their home and they give up their private spaces to come together and bare their souls face-to-face.

And those work-outs! :redhead:

:eyecrazy: Gulp! To me, it would feel like :coach: Boot Camp!

I used to get stress fractures in my feet from hauling 135 extra pounds while walking on a quarter mile track for an hour once a year when my grade school had a jog-a-thon fundraiser and I was required to walk with my students. I was totally wiped out for 2.5 days afterwards, sat in a recliner with ice packs on my legs and feet, a bottle of prescription pain pills on the end table.

 No way could I have done what they are doing. I admire them!

:secret: But ya know what?

:hmmm: I admire all of you, too – you are changing your routines and establishing new habits that promote healthful living,
you are doing :aarggh: difficult things under :lightsword: difficult circumstances,

you’re donning your :weightlift: workout clothes,

doing without some of your :buddies: comforts,

separating from your foody  friends,

kicking aside some things that have weighed ya down or kept you back,

gotten rid of baggy clothes, :woohoo:

fast-forwarding through the abundant chow commercials (great idea!)

and how cool is that – watching the motivatin’ show while you’re sweatin’

and raising your own  heart rate atop the :treadjog: tready!

 Yup, I definitely :clapclap: admire you :you:

I enjoyed reading your comments and if I take my :hammerhead: Medi-memory, maybe I can remember to DVRit and see it sometime.

I must have still been detoxing from the booze because I posted a pic of myself, midrift showing, in all it's 233 pound glory. I swear, no one remembers her, I didn't make her up, but there was a chick who joined at the same time as I did who said, well I guess we're doing this in "The Biggest Loser" fashion in the Studio and she was bigger than me so I did it!

I found one major thing I didn't like in this weeks show. Because of the whole competition aspect of the game, they are really looking upset over what is a normal weight loss for people. Losing 3-5 lbs a week is a good thing.
Also with all that working out :yippee: I really wish they would take measurements also because if I am not mistaken muscle weighs like 3 times more than fat and is like 7 times smaller. It is just upsetting to watch people be upset because they only loss 3-5lbs this week. Hopefully they can put it in to perspective.

I completely agree, Clint. That was the same thing I thought after watching it last night (I had TiVo-ed it). If I lose 3 pounds in a week it's great! Let alone 6 or 9. I think I read that as they approach the final weigh-in, too, sometimes the contestants are being very unhealthy just to get a few more pounds off - and that's why at the update show almost everyone had put some back on. Some say MF is extreme but the more I watch Biggest Loser, the more I think they are extreme. Yes diet and exercise is the right way, but to be sad about losing weight because it wasn't enough? That's too bad. That's the kind of thinking that would send me straight to the Chinese restaurant.

I think they're pretty extreme, too. Their calories are quite low (although not as low as Medifast; I think it's supposed to be seven times your weight, but not below 1,000). And they work out four hours a day, including the "last-chance workout" before they weigh in, in which they try to just sweat off (or even puke off) as much weight as possible before stepping on the scale.

Some have kept all the weight off or even continued to lose after they left, but most of the ones they showed a few weeks ago had gained back a significant amount (understandable, given how they'd lost it). And that's just the people they SHOW - I'm guessing most, if not all, of the folks who've gained back a LOT of their weight just refuse to come back. Or aren't asked back.

Then again, the long-term success rate for ANY plan is low. Those of us who've been here awhile have seen plenty of people drift away without reaching goal, or come back after reaching goal and gaining back some or all of the weight. It happens on every weight-loss plan.

Whoa. Jillian had that woman running at 10.5 mph??? Only for a few seconds, but still. Apparently I need to try some faster intervals, maybe on my walking days!

Does anyone else think the show is ruined by "playing the game"? It just doesn't seem right that someone should be voted out because they had a really GOOD week. :x

Or the people ONLY playing a game...like the guy that drank like 3 gallons of water and gained 17lbs, just to get his partner thrown out...I would've voted that guy out simply for being an uber-jerk!

Yeah, the game-playing was even worse, if you can believe it, on the Aussie version. I get the feeling Bob's kinda disgusted by the whole thing.

But on the Aussie show, they had a reunion afterward and discussed how the water loading works. They load up on sodium all week plus drink a bunch, and then the next week, they cut out pretty much ALL sodium and drink as much as possible to flush everything out. They had it all worked out to how much sodium and water you needed to consume per pound. Crazy.

The other things I object to are a) they go by total body weight (or percentage) lost, rather than looking at body fat, so it doesn't account for the folks who clearly packed on a ton of muscle, and b) it's really not fair to the women, because it's just physically impossible for them to lose as fast as the men do.

That water loading could be elimated if they would only make them vote on the 2 or 3 lowest losers for the week.

But who asked me, hehe.

They already do that. They only vote between the two lowest ones. The people who load do it when they have immunity and aren't in danger of being eliminated. The point is to basically ensure their safety for the NEXT week, too, because they'll have a huge loss the second week, once the water weight is gone (so they lose the pounds they gained from loading, the pounds they REALLY lost that first week AND the pounds they lost the second week).

On the Aussie version, they changed the rules so anyone who gained weight in a given week would be up for elimination, whether they had immunity or not. But then people just loaded a little less, so they wouldn't show a loss, but wouldn't gain.

This week, they got rid of someone on the team and it was someone who had had a really good week. They must have switched the rules up for some reason......at least I thought that's what happened. Could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Yeah, it's because they just split them into two teams. Before, when they were pairs, they had to be below the yellow line. And later, when there are too few to be in teams, they'll do it that way again.
