lexapro is very good for depression. it also has the lowest incident of weight gain among users. it is also used to help with bulimia and other eating disorders. generally a good drug; few mentionable side effects.

I have been on Lexapro off and on for over two years. I used to take 30mg and now I only take .5 mg. It has definitely helped my depression. When I first started taking it, for the first two weeks it made me sleepy but that went away. Good luck.

Remember to get that sunlight without sunglasses!

Well, just focus on taking your meds now and just getting outside for a short walk when you can. I used to hole up for days at a time. When I could finally make myself go outside I felt loads better.

My dad was on it for about 8 months, it helped him a lot. The only side-effect he had was sleeping harder and sometimes wanting to take a nap in the afternoon, but it was never a problem.

Also, check with your doctor and see if it's OK to take fish oil supplements, 3000 mg a day. It's excellent for depression, bipolar disorder AND cardiac health. I was able to eventually give up my anti-depressants because of it.

I took Lexapro to treat my IBS. I did gain some weight on it and I did get constipated on it. But it did calm me down a bit and make me feel ok about leaving the house and even eating out in restaurants.

Just FYI, I have been on anti-depressants off and on for 10 years and it has never taken that long for one to start showing some results for me. Total effects may take that long but don't be surprised if you start feeling better in a few days.
