Cookware?

Postby ladyhawke » February 16th, 2008, 6:53 am

Hi all, I am in the market for new cookware and was wondering if anyone is partial to any certain cookware that is out there.

I had Farberware years ago and liked it because it wasn't that black Teflon stuff that kills birds and flakes off eventually.
There is so much new stuff out there I would appreciate any input before I make the investment.

Thanks!

To be honest with you the best cooking equipment is anything 100% staineless steel. The heat is a 100% accurate. But I do have one teflon pan to cook my mf eggs in. This is what I use. You will have this for life. My mother bought me a set 10 years ago and it still looks like it is brand new condition. Also you can scrub the heck out of it. You will not scratch it. :D

PS if you do buy stainless steel Make sure the handle is staineslees steel. You do not want it to break off.

Hi there :)

You used the word "investment". How much do you want to spend? Do you want stainless or non-stick?

I use the All- Clad MC2 pots for most of my cooking and they are stainless, not non-stick. I always feel like a professional chef when I use them.

For things like rice and potatoes that may stick, I use the cheapest brand out there- T-Fal. Nothing, even cheese, will stick to those pots! They are absolutely wonderful! I use my 4-quart T-Fal pot more than anything. It is really easy to clean and great for simple cooking like soups, noodles, etc.

PS You can put all-stainless pots right in the oven, too!

Thanks for the info Katie and D+S, I definitely want stainless, I think I will check out the Kenmore stainless with the copper band or whatever it is.
I have had Cooks Essential's from QVC for yrs and can't wait to throw it out.

I make the MF oatmeal eveyday in a Martha Stewart little saucepan and it can't help but stick.

From what I understand All-clad is the way to go but I don't have $1,000 to spend on cookware for just 2 people.

Thanks again.

as long as it is 100% staineless steel you are good to go. I do not like the copper part of it. When I worked in the restaurants it was very hard to keep up with. Some of the equipment you had to polish.

You do not need to spend a lot of money for the pots and pans. I do not know if you have a linen and things or a bed bath and beyond near you, but they always send out 20% coupons. And they take each others coupons  I just bought a new dyson vacumn cleaner there it was 400.00 I gave them my 20% coupon and it was 320.00 NOw that is a savings. And on top of that the coupon is good for the whole order.

I go along with Katie on how difficult it is to keep up with the copper. A friend of mine got an absolutely beautiful Calphalon stainless cookware set with copper exterior. IMO it only looks good when you take it out of the box new! (Other than that Calphalon is a great brand, but pricey).

I have All-Clad stainless steel and love it. Bought it at William Sonoma. It was expensive (about $1200 for our set), but I do think it will last forever. And by buying the set, we got a bunch of free stuff, like the large roaster, a panini maker, and some utensils.

Whoa! Calphalon is very inexpensive compared to that!

The best we've come across is Kitchen Craft and affiliated. We bought Royale Prestige years ago and have been very happy.

Its that whole fine line between long lasting and inexpensive.

I did not buy the whole set like Jo. I was given an Anolon set for my wedding shower that I have used for years with no problem, but as my cooking advanced, so did my cookware. I try to ad a new All-Clad pot or pan every few months as I can afford to.

I think with cookware, it's true that you get what you pay for.

You are correct, Jo. I will probably hold onto my set until Dylan moves out and gets his own apartment, then give them to him and buy a new set for myself. That will be in another twenty-something years, and I have a feeling they will hold up that long!

And what's equally important, IMO, is to pay for only what you need! I think my entire set cost all of $59 and it's just fine! I'm that "less is more" kinda gal. :D
