I ate at a restaurant for the first time since starting.

Postby ascicles » April 27th, 2006, 1:30 pm

My boss was in town today and offered to take us out for lunch. I haven't avoided eating out because of being scared of eating the wrong thing, but rather, making sure I ate the right portions (and they had something acceptable on the menu).

Anyway, I ordered the flame grilled chicken breast. It seemed to be close to 7oz, maybe a little less. I forgot to ask about cooking in oil, but it didn't taste like anything was added...so hopefully it will be fine.

It came on a bed of rice (which I didn't eat) and the "vegetable of the day". Fortunately, the vegetable was asparagus. I have never had it before, but the taste wasn't that bad...and with a little salt it tasted pretty good.

It came in a typical vegetable cup that you get a restaurant, but I really couldn't judge if it was close to my 1 1/2 cups needed.

Anyway, I think I did ok for my first trip to a regular restaurant. The portions may have been a little off, but I think that my body can deal with that for just one day.

My only concern now is being hungry tonight, when it's my usual time to eat dinner. I'll probably just make a bowl of bouillon with some crackers and a few pieces of mushrooms (to hopefully raise the vegatable total a bit for the day).

When I have had a L&G for lunch (a couple times I have done this), I wasn't hungry at dinnertime like I thought I might be. Don't worry, a Medifast meal will do ya just fine for dinner. :)

BTW, when you go out to eat you can ask for no oil use, and ask for no rice, and ask for a little extra veggies. They are more than happy to oblige, just leave a nice tip. :)

I was going to suggest the same thing. I usually ask for no rice/potato/whatever and some extra veggies or salad instead. People have so many special dietary requests these days, no one bats an eye.

You did fine, though.

I asked for no rice, but the guy didn't seem to listen. I didn't think about asking for extra veggies.

I feel like I was a little short on the veggie count, so I think I'm going to put about 1/4 cup of mushrooms in some bouillon tonight.

Hi

I think you did great! See, we can eat out in the real world...it's fine! I'm happy you did it!

I also am very specific in restaurants (and I've had about 10 L & G's NOT in a restaurant since I started). Most waitstaff is very willing to work with me, Plus I tell them I know it's out of their way and I tip very well because of that! Most places will gladly give you more veggies, especially if you say no potato or rice!

Glad you got "out there!"

I eat out in restaurants almost every day for lunch. I have found that you can work around a lot of things on a menu. My Doctor suggested 4+1, and I choose my L&G to be at noon. I have lunches with clients normally 2-3 times a week so I just standardized on the lunchtime L&G. If I can ster them to Oriental I will get Chicken with snow peas and no rice. If not, then I look for a grilled chicken salad with no cheese or croutons and make sure the dressing is on the side. Normally I will use no more than a tbs. of ranch on a salad. If we are at some place that is a little nicer then I go for fish. Yesterday was a treat we were a place that was a little more upscale and I had scallops that were broiled on a skewer. The vegetable of the day was peas not my favorite but the were green.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it can be done with a little scouring of the menu and making polite requests.

Wildtrk, we aren't allowed snow peas. :( I think it was once on the allowed list but not now.

No regular peas, either. They're a starch (they're a legume, not a vegetable). Sorry!!

Our local Chinese restaurant has steamed chicken and broccoli. To anyone else, it would probably be considered quite bland, but I love it love it, love it!

I usually get something like that, but with spicy garlic sauce on the side. Then I dip my fork in, like with salad dressing. Or even my chopsticks.

I found steak places to be great! I get a small lunch sized steak (they are usually 6 oz. pre-cooked weight so that's around 5 oz. cooked) and double broccoli. It is much more satisfying to me to have steak when I go out rather than chicken or a salad. My hubby and I do lunch almost every Tuesday and I really look forard to it!
