My father passed away peacefully tonight. I have been coming down every month since December. I had a lot of time with him to tell him just how much I love him and we did talk a lot. Last month (April) when I was down, he was starting to decline quite a bit and that was a tough goodbye - he cried when I left - with my heart in a million pieces. I came back down on May 10th and over the last two weeks he declined quite a bit. He was 91 and he was a tough old guy - a true hero to me. He had a rough afternoon trying to catch his breath, with the true kindness of Hospice we were able to bring him home two months ago so he could be where he loved to be. He finally started to breath peacefully and then just slipped away. I miss him dearly and will love him always - I was holding his hand when he died.

He will be buried this summer in Arlington NAtional Cemetary - with an honor guard, fitting for him.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like you and your Dad had a very sweet relationship right up until the very end. I know you will cherish that for the rest of your life, as Im sure he did too. I am a firm believer that when someone we are close to pases on, that they are never really "gone". Physically, yes, that part is true. But I feel as if their spirits are with us and help guide us through our journey. Take care, and you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Maria-We have all been thinking about you. You are never that far away. I am so glad that you had time to be with your father. I have talked with you before, and I hope you remember some of the things that I "said". You are strong and you will survive. His spirit lives in you. Allow him to live on through your actions. Remember that he is not really gone. Only now, you have to close your eyes to see him. You can always feel his presence, though. Stay strong.

I am so sorry. I know how tough it is to lose a parent -- my dad died 6 years ago today (on my mom's birthday) and she died (I think her heart was broken) 2 years later at Christmas...
