You haven't wimped out one tiny little bit. That is why it isn't so hard for me to stay away from the scale. I don't like to get all tied up with the numbers. I know when I look good. I know when I feel good, and I know when my clothes fit comfortably and are a size that is comfortable for me. I just set a goal weight for me that was within the BMI chart recommendations. But, my method for staying there when I reach it, is to find a great fitting pair of jeans that disguise my pancake butt and make it look more like an apple. I will buy them in a few different washes. I will wear them at least 2 times and maybe 3 times a week. When they feel tight, I know I need to watch it a little bit. If they feel loose, I need to watch it a little bit. But, when they feel just right, I know I am doing okay!!! I am so proud of you, and so inspired by you. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations. I think you made a wise decision and jumping into exercise the way you have and feeling great tells you quite clearly that you are at goal!

You've inspired me SO much, you've made me laugh, you've made me think, you've made me wish I could exercise as vigorously as you, and you've provided tons of info and support. You've done it all!...Well, I've never had a dream about you...tattooed or otherwise!

I'm so happy for you! I just know you'll be terrific in transition and maintenance, and pretty soon you'll be all buff 'n tuff!

Thanks, you guys. I think in the back of my head, that number is still there. But if I don't ever reach it, it'll just be another part of my self-designed cognitive therapy on body acceptance.

Speaking of which, I talked to my cousin (who has a doctorate in psychology and used to be a therapist before the kids). She said that I'm spot-on with my understanding of cognitive therapy and that I'm doing exactly the right things. So yay!

Yesterday someone at work commented that she saw me from across the room and hadn't realized how thing I'd gotten. And I actually just said "thank you" instead of launching into what I still need to work on. (One small step for DogMa ...)

I definitely think you are doing the right thing.

I'm fairly certain that my current goal weight is going to be too low for me. I've always had very muscular legs. My last memory of a weight close to 130 was 140ish when I was about 14. Someone took a picture of me sitting at a table and the image burned into my brain forever. 1. I'm cute. I'm skinny. 2. My arms and neck were way too skinny looking!

Now I know I'm 32 and I don't have the body of a 14 yo. They always look gangly. I also probably have less muscle then I did then because I danced 40 hours a week as a child and young teen. But still.. I've been preparing myself for the inevitable change in goal weight. We never know til we get there, and what we think should be our goal isn't always what our body wants or needs!

Anyway, I chose my goal based on the bmi chart. Boy do I hope I can fit into a size 6 or 4 like you do when I reach whatever mine is :D

Sure, but where'd that number come from? You chose it. And I bet when you chose that number you didn't think your other number would be a 4! Girl, that is only 3 sizes up from ZERO. You are teensy weensy! You are 3 sizes from ZEEE-RO. This is you on a teeter-totter, LOL.

Robin, I am so thrilled for you and I think you are making a wise choice. You chose a somewhat arbitrary number as a goal that (at the time) didn't really mean anything when it comes to clothing size, body type, the way you'll look and feel. You ahve worked so hard for so long, and to make yourself crazy over the scale at this point seems a waste of energy.

Instead, like you said, focus your energies on exercise and maintenance - and I agree with you that maintenance seems a much scarier proposition than the diet ever was/is.

I plan to visit you in maintenance land soon, and hope that we can swap some ideas and experiences.

By the way, it really does sound like your cognitive therapy efforts are paying off...hopefully you'll have a "holy sh*t" moment one day and see yourself the way others see you. Heck, I am waiting for my moment, too!

WOW DOGMA - CONGRATS!!!

You must feel great. I remember when you first started and it seems like you just melted right before my eyes.

When I restarted MF, instead of picking a number I thought might be good for me based on all sorts of crazy input, I decided to have 3 goals based on the high-med-low end of my height/weight chart and see how I feel/look at each.

I'm curious when you started how you chose what you thought might be your goal.

How great that you're able to see/feel yourself in a healthy body and know what's best to take care of you!!!

Way to go, look forward to hearing of your transition and maintenance success.

Thanks, you guys. Basically, I picked 125 because the last time I was that weight, I felt pretty good. The lowest I got at the time was 120, and that was really hard to maintain, but I stayed at 125 for a good, long time. I was a size 8 back then (but I still think sizes have changed and the equivalent would be a 6 now).

Anyway, here's the crazy thing. No sooner did I change my goal and start transitioning than guess what happened? Today I'm in the 120s. Talk about irony.

I'm still surprised by just how low my calories are and have been. I knew they were below 1,000, but I thought with the extra meal each day, they weren't THAT much lower. Turns out even with the extra meal AND the low-fat cheese I just added, I'm only at 915. No wonder I'm not building muscle as quickly as I'd like.

Robin, Maybe you'll reach your original goal while you are in transition. It might just be that you need those extra calories now to get out of stasis.

i'm proud of you for making a sane decision.
i think a lot of people who try to force themselves into a lower weight are setting themselves up for failure-- because when you go below your body's healthy weight, it will try to add those pounds back relentlessly.
i do believe that you will drop a little more as you add muscle-- because it will cause you to burn away any pockets of fat you may have been unable to lose.
either way, it's awesome that you are brave enough to accept that you have succeeded-- and are now beginning to integrate your new strength into every aspect of your life.
