Weird food relationship

Okay, Today Is my first day. I am torn already after 1 MF shake. I feel kind of lost kind of relieved. I don't know what to do without having to think about food. I feel kind of depressed since I will not be eating untila certain time. I am kinf of glad I don't need to think about it. Kind of lost as to what do I do now with myself. I cannot believe how much food runs my day and emotions. Anyone relate?

I totaly relate to that, but now 9.5 months later I can honestly say that food does not run through my head anymore!! Drink a bunch of water...when you start thinking of food start drinking some water, chew a piece of sugar free gum, go walk around, do something that will keep your mind off the food. You can do this and eat every 2 - 3 hours! Keep it up, you WILL see results! Good luck to you!

It was a relief for me to only have to worry about eating a real meal once a day. In terms of relationships, all mine have been weird.

It took time and effort to become overweight and it wil take time and effort to become healthy again. Believe me, we can probably all relate. Just get through each 3 hours at a time and don't worry about the long term efforts ahead. It's all worth it and it will get better.

Absolutely it will get better. They say the first 3 days are the hardest but for me it was about a week, because I had/have such an emotional attachment to food. But there will come a time when you have to remind yourself to eat, if you can believe that - it's true! And it doesn't take as long as you'd imagine for that to happen. So hang in there and like Mike said, drink your water, because it really does help you feel satisfied.

Yep, I TOTALLY relate!!! Food was my passion in life. It took a long time for me to admit that to myself. But like you said, once I started medifast, it amazed me just how much food consumed my thoughts.

If you hang in there it gets easier. When I get cravings now, I try to think about other things. Maybe I'll think about how happy I'll be when I'm rid of this fat suit. Sometimes I just think about something cute my kids did, or how much my husband loves me, or something that I saw on TV last night....something OTHER than food. I also try to do something nice for someone else when I'm REALLY struggling. I find if you only think about food...you're gonna eat! If you think about other things, and do other constructive things, your thought patterns become more healthy and food no longer consumes every thought :)

Can you do something to take your mind off food? Maybe go clean the house or look for skinny clothes on the internet?

weird relationship with food

I can really identify with what you said! When I started back with MediFast almost 2 mos ago now, after about a week I was horrified to realize just how much of my waking hours were spent thinking about food. That time could've been spent doing something else that I enjoy, and now I am learning to fill that time with other things. It'll happen, you just have to get into the habit. You can do it!

Wow, what timing! Yesterday I was going through the 'mourning' about not having eating & food as my 'hobby' throughout the day. It was interesting to have it hit me that I was no longer doing that and that, hopefully, I never will do that again. I guess the success with MF and the ease of following the program is still feeling 'too good to be true' for me. I sure am looking forward to the day that I'll know for positive that I will never be the person I was, trapped with food as my main companion & hobby each day.

You can do this and you will be amazed at how good you are going to feel!! :)

I too can totally relate. It will be one month for me on Monday and this past weekend I mourned food all weekend long. It wasn't that I was hungry - yet I was craving things that I would not even typically eat. It was pretty bad - in my sleep I was even having dreams about chocolate cake and pizza :x . Like I said - it was a rough weekend but I stuck to it and this week has been much much better. You can do it!!!! :D

I have pizza dreams too. But I never get to eat it. It's like everytime I lift the lid on the box it is empty!

I sort of wish that everyone has the same reaction when on MF as I do and that reaction is I have food adversions(sp) and some things really just make me so sick to my stomach that it's a shame... One technique I learned from an old co-worker is if someone has a food you love or that is tempting you to take a wiff of it and then walk away.. That always makes me think is it really that good and how am I going to feel afterwards...

For some people food is something that helps them cope with life. For some, overeating is a disease, just as alcoholism. For some, we get used to eating and feeling that need to keep our stomach full, kind of like smoking.
It is all a mind thing. We all have allowed eating to become something that it wasn't meant to be, and I am one that let it rule my life. At times, the thoughts still do, and at times, I still fall to the temptation.
The struggle continues, as Nancy will say... packet by packet. You will get stronger as time goes on. As a wise person once said (which originated from a Bible verse I believe), whatever struggle doesn't kill you will make you stronger.
We fight this battle every second, but isn't it nice to know that we have a great system as a tool to fight the good fight. The battles rage on but we will win the war. :mrgreen:

I'm so glad we have all made the decision to take control. We may still fall at times.......but we are at least on the right path.
