1/2 & 1/2 question

Postby kmr » April 28th, 2007, 7:25 am

I have to have my 2 T of 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffe every morning. My question is...... which 1/2 &1/2 is better for this program, F.F. or regular? The reason I'm asking is because the F.F. has less calories and no fat, but triple the carb amount. Here are the differences: F.F.- per 2 T serving has 20 cal., 0 fat, and 3 carbs. Regular has 40 cal., 3.5 fat, and 1 carb per 2 T serving. I'm not sure which one is best, being that this is a lower carb program. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I used to use the FF H&H but after dicovering there was corn syrup in it, I switched to regular. I have had two tablespoons this morning, usually my limit-if I want more coffee I force myself to drink it black-and it was 39 calories, 3 fat, 1 carb, 1 protein. Definitely not a diet killer since I hardly ever even approach 850 calories a day. I really don't think it has slowed my progress either way.

KMR, personally I would use the real thing and not the FF. If you use the real thing, and you start to see your weight loss start to slow down or stall then re-evaluate your program and what you are using and then make that change. I use 2T of Heavy Whipping Cream in my coffee everyday and I still lost 160 pounds and didn't see it mess up my progress, but everyone is different. So just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone else! Good luck!

Use the real thing. Nutrition Support said watching the carbs are more important than fat and calories if you want to stay in the "fat-burning state".

Howdy Doody, KMR (I write as I sip my coffee with 1/2 & 1/2...) ~

It is your choice how you wish to spend your carbs...I buy the fat free version for home because of the heart health history of my husband's family - I try to go low fat for him whenever possible. He drinks a lot of coffee every day and poliches off the entire pot here at home and then has a couple cups of coffee at Starbuck's. I usually have one cup/day at Starbuck's with full fat 1/2 & 1/2.

I also choose 1/2 & 1/2 over the coffee creamers; it's just my preference because I try to avoid the corn syrup also.

There are twice as many calories in the full fat version but the carb count is much less and to stay in the fat-burning zone, it is usually the best route, esp. if you have bars and the soy crisps or other higher carb food items.

As Nancy and everyone else above said... FF has more carbs, and carbs are what can take you out of fat burning. The calories in the regular may slow you a bit, but in reality, the small amount you have (unless you are having alot of coffee) probably won't be a problem. There are more calories in the Medisnacks than there are in the half and half.
