I'm new and thrilled to be here

Postby rider » December 12th, 2003, 6:25 am

Hi there group,
I've been lurking for about two weeks, and have been on Medifast Modified for that long, as well. You are all inspiring to me with your dedication, honesty and support. I hope I can offer some support for you all, too. I've lost 11 pounds so far, have had a small slip up (chips at a holiday party -- with cheese dip) but bounced back pretty fast. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself with a big hello. :wavie:

Rider, welcome. No frills here. Pure honesty. We are all in the same boat, to dump the tonnage. Lots of support here, lots of good ideas. We actually have some fun, and look forward to your support.

Promise there will be no more slip ups? Slip ups only hurt you in the long run, no one else correct? (I am not preaching) Though I would love chips (oh I used to love chips) I cannot - Medifast makes a difference - you loose weight as you have always wanted to - IT WORKS!!!

Hello rider and welcome. I have also just finished my second week. I am doing a combination full fast and modified. Whether I eat a modified meal or not depends on what I cook for my husband. But I am very satisfied with my weight loss so far. I will be posting my official weight below but I'll give you a hint. (total 20 in 14 days). So welcome and glad to have you with us. :stroll: Maggie

Re: Researching Medifast

Postby Ladymvb2 » December 12th, 2003, 12:19 pm

I am doing some research on the Medifast and am thinking about doing it. I was wondering if anyone who has lost a considerable amount of weight has the excess skin when weight loss is so rapid. Like you have when you have the biatric surgery.

Lady: To answer your question:

Yes, it happens. How much it happens depends on your age, how fast you lose, and your skin's elasticity.

Exercise helps with that too.

Welcome!

Thanks, Jeanette, for your answer. I do exercise at least 30 minutes every day plus other things. I am really considering the Medifast. I am numerous health problems and have over 100 pounds to lose. So what do I have to lose--yeah, weight.

Well, thats me. Something I knew might happen. Appears it is happening. I was 337 (6'3" large statured man, 42 years old) Held my 100+ pounds most of my life. Lost so far about 85+ pounds, and yes, the skin is showing.

Had I known this would happen, would I have done the loss? Yes. Had I known this, would I have done it the Medifast way (rapidly)? Yes.

I will never be a Mel Gibson, or a Ah-nold (Ca. Gov'nr) but, do I care? Not really. Excercize or not, I think it is likely that ANYONE loosing a substantial amount of weight is destined for a loose middle, unless your young and real elastic (not me).

Laugh at this... Since being overweight most of my life, I learned 15 years ago to walk around trying to hide the fact that I was FAT, sucked in my gut everytime I stood or walked. Result? Get this, I have a defined stomach!!! When I stand gandering in the mirror (gasp) shirtless, I can actually see the defined muscle(s) in my stomach - due to being FAT and having the fear I was FAT (not the fact that I was 100# overweight and it showed anyway - oh no!!) So yes, I have the skin, and it will probably never go away.

Do I wish I could get it to go away? Naaa.. I could afford the "nip-tuck" if I preferred, but hey, my philosophy on this (was different when I was Fatter) is "I-Yam-What-I-Yam" for now anyway, this thought might change later.

Maybe down the line in a few years, I will dig out the vanity checkbook and look into the "belt line" removal, but for now, I will just bask in the loss.... Got about 20+/- more to go, and I would not change anything, except for the realization - I wish I knew about Medifast long ago!!

Again, I am posting to a really old conversation, but I recently read that your body will continue to use it's own fuel and will eventually use the skin when it is completely through with all fat. The reason for this conclusion was that skin is a living organism and that when there is a substantial weight loss people tend to hit there goal and stop, but if they keep going the body will be forced to use the extra skin.

Don't really know for sure, but I am going to give it a shot.
