Need some Thai Help

Postby dede4wd » May 10th, 2006, 5:01 pm

Hi,
I'm not REAL into Thai food, but am going out for a business lunch at a thai place tomorrow. I'm bringing my bar just in case, but does anyone have any acceptable L&G ideas for a thai place?

I'm good at chinese...I just get steamed chicken or steamed pork with veggies (throwing out the carrots), and I do fine, what should I do at a frou frou thai place? Yes, in South Carolina (don't ask!)

Hi DeDe,

I LOVE Thai food. most of the Thai places I go to will prepare the food the way you want it. If you want steamed vegis with nothing on them they will do it, steamed spinach, poached fish, etc. They will also make it with the amount of heat you want. I have order Kung Pao fish with no peanuts and no rice (with the fish steamed instead of breaded) cooked with the hot peppers just like always. With a steamed vegi on the side it is yummy!! Hey I am getting hungry just thinking about it

Good luck!

The Thai resturant I like to go to has a menu item that is basically create your own meal, you pick your meat and tell them how you want it cooked and then they have a veggie bar where you go fill your bowl with the veggies you want and they cook it to order.

I don't know how common that is though.

Basil chicken is really good, and I can't recall it having anything out of plan in it, but I'm sure you could ask. it's usually served with rice, but it would be good with a side of veggies! It's nice and spicy.

I'm going to assume you'll be in Charleston, because I can't think of any other town in South Carolina that would have anything "frou frou".

I'm a dumb country girl, so anything with forks and plates that aren't plastic is frou frou!

I know this is an old topic but Thai food is one of my fav's.....The best thing I've found to order is the Laabe Issan which is ground chiken with spices that you wrap with Iceburg lettuce leaves....buuuutttt....be sure you ask that it is prepared without rice powder!! (I think it tastes better without it anyways). But it is a great way to go out to eat totally minus any guilt or cravings!!! oh....btw....sometimes it's listed as a salad and sometimes as a main course, depends on the restaurant.....
It's been swell but the swelling's gone down...
