I need a "do-over"

Postby Allie » July 3rd, 2007, 5:37 pm

Today was a horrible day!!! I was doing great on mf until about 2pm when my boss called me into her office and told me that I had been insubordinate to her this morning. I don't know how that could have been since I had been in our other office until 1230 and hadn't seen or talked to her. I was sooooo mad that I cried. Then I was even madder. So I ate two pieces of cake. Thne I was madder so I ate a cookie.

What Was I Thinking? I am supposed to be doing something good for myself and then I do that?!?!?!?!?

I have tomorrow off for the holiday, and thursday afternoon I have a job interview so hopefully I can start strong tomorrow.

Hi,

Sounds like a truely sucky day! I can completely understand the emotional eating and I think most women could also.

I hope you take this moment now to take control and that way tomorrow you will have already have been back on track. I hope you can feel optomistic that everything can and will get better.

best wishes,
sfjoy :goodluck:

It's so easy to revert back to using food for comfort - I've done it a LOT even while on MF. It will always be there, always be a risk and strong emotions will trigger it - but I know we can learn other ways to deal with our feelings.

I'm sorry you were treated poorly. I relate to being mad because you cried, too - I hate it when I do that, I feel like I'm playing right into the stereotype of a weak woman who can't handle the pressure. But you are not weak and I hope you have a great job interview and can leave this boss in the dust!!

I'm so sorry you had such a bad time. But did the cake change anything? Was your boss less angry? Were YOU less angry? It sounds like instead of being angry at her and the situation, you ended up also angry at (or disappointed in) yourself. So learn from that. Remember this feeling the next time (because there WILL be a next time; there always is, right?). Think about other ways you could cope with those feelings (talking it out with a friend, posting about it here, writing in a journal, taking a walk). Maybe even write them down and keep them handy.

Believe me, when you're upset and angry like that and you DON'T give in to food and instead deal with the emotions in a healthier way, you'll feel amazing and strong and proud of yourself. And that's a MUCH better feeling.

Now is the best time to start learning how to deal with your emotions without turning to food. It's not easy, but it's SO worth it.

Thanks guys. I have decided to start on July 5th as I have 4 BBQs I am supposed to attend today. I think thursday will be better because I will be alone in my house (my mom is going to Germany), and I will not be tempted to eat crap. For today, I am planning to just stick to veggies and salad and fruit.

No, no, no!! Eat some protein with those veggies and fruit. You'll feel a whole lot better and be less tempted by the other stuff.

Oh ya. I was planning on having something bbq'd like a burger patty, and I know that my mom is making grilled salmon. I just ment that I am going to avoid candy and cookies and cake and that sort of thing.

Ah, OK. Thanks for clarifying! I'd wait till after today to start, too. No need to make it harder than it is.

I am so envious that you have so many events to attend. The last thing I was invited to was a funeral.

So I get it about eating out of frustration. I am SOOOO struggling right now with staying on plan. Not that I'm off by a ton (no cakes, cookies or alcohol) but I have been just messing around with it. Three meal replacements, and two fat free hot dog weenies. Or four MRs and a hamburger patty with cheese dip over it. Not exactly lean and certainly not green.

I started again this morning exactly as I should but I am really having a problem being hungry. I know that I knocked myself right out of ketosis last weekend, do you folks who have been on this a while think this is just going through ketosis all over again or what?

How do you correct the conversation in your head to get back on track over the long-haul?

Biki - at least you were the one invited to the funeral, not the one for whom people were invited! I'm thinking I want a good Irish wake myself when I go....stand me in a corner and pour vodka down my throat. Sounds like a good alternative to the traditional funeral to me!
