Hello Cathy..

I am on my 3rd week and have lost 11 pounds.. I am thrilled.

I am a very slow looser.. so if I can loose lets day 10 pounds a month even.. my gosh that puts me looking pretty good by summer!

if you dig around on the message board you will learn people lose at difrent paces..but everyone will lose if they stick to the program..

I am sure one of the pro's will answer this question for you.

Hang in there!

Hi Cathy,
You're doing fine. Everyone loses at a different pace. For instance, I just finished my second week & I've lost 7 lbs. I've been stuck there since Sunday. But, I still lost 7 lbs & I know I'm sticking to program & losing inches. If I can look good in a size 12 & I weigh 180 lbs I'd be ecstatic! 10 lbs, is awesome!

Shakin' it,

Hi Cathy,

It took me three weeks to lose 9 lbs. I am ending my 4th week and gained 1.5 lbs. midweek, then dropped it as of this morning, which puts me at the same weight I was a week ago today. So.....I am a very slow loser and get bummed out about it also, especially when I see that someone can lose 9 lbs. in one day! I am not cheating either.

I went back and read a lot of older posts on slow weight losses and one thing that Nancy said in one of her posts was that short people lose weight at a slower rate (I am 5' 3"). All of the posts reiterated staying the course and the weight will come off.....everyone's body is different as are their rates of weight loss. I just feel I am in the minority group on the weight loss totem pole. Unless, the slow losers don't speak up as loudly as the faster losers.

Anyway, I am grateful for the 9 lb. loss, and have had to lower my expectations....I am definately not going to lose 20 lbs. a month as some people do....so guess I'll be around for awhile.

Hang in there!

Try to remember guys that the average weight loss on a "conventional" diet is 1-2lbs a week and if I am reading correctly you are all averaging at least a 3lb a week weight loss. I know the scale can be fickle but remember stick to the program and you will lose!!! I personally lost 10lbs my first week then "just" three and this week as of yesterday I had lost none!! Remember especially for females we have alot of factors that affect our weight loss and I am sticking with it cause I KNOW that if I am compliant the weight has to come off. It has been a while since I have dieted and I am on a lot of medication so I don't know if I will lose fast or slow but either way I know I will lose and yall will to!!(yeah I am from the south and we use the word yall alot)

Keep shakin let's do this together!

There are other ways to measure progress, as well. You may not be losing lbs at the moment, but you might be losing some inches. Do your clothes fit better? This week I think I've lost MAYBE 2 lbs, but amazingly the jeans that I tried on last Saturday are a little looser today. That means my body is still working its way toward thinness, regardless of what the scale says.

Every body is different, and to compare your weightloss rate with someone else . . . well, IMO, that way lies madness (not to mention serious frustration). 9 lbs in three weeks is nothing to sneeze at! As Lisa pointed out, normal dieting can get you 1-2 lbs a week. That's 8 lbs a month. You've already beat that, and you're only at 3 weeks.

Read some of the older posts (and actually, there have been quite a few recent posts on this subject, as well) and you'll find you are not alone in wondering about your rate of loss. You might find encouragement in both the struggles of the posts' authors, and in the replies.

There are other slow losers here, but I do think we're in the minority. I lost 5 pounds my first week, then around 2 a week for a while, and now I struggle for every ounce. It's still better than I was doing on other programs, though.

I'm short, too (5-foot-2). Plus over 40 and postmenopausal, which doesn't help. And a former yo-yo dieter, which ALSO doesn't help.

It's frustrating, but I try to look at my ticker every day. It may have taken me a long time, but the fact is I'm down more than 40 pounds and I don't plan to go back.

On my old, low-carb message boards, we had a special "turtle club" area for slow losers. Maybe they could start something like that here, so we can support one another. And on bad days, avoid the areas where folks are dropping weight like crazy. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them. But it definitely can be discouraging sometimes.

10 pounds a month is 120 a year....sounds great to me.

How much do you have to lose? If you only need to lose 30 pounds, 3 pounds is 10%, so that is comparable to someone who needs to lose 100 plus and drops 10. In the end, I have seen that this plan seems to be effective.

If you add in water and liquids and some exercise, that might make a difference for you. Some people I have met never exercise and lose. Others really need that. I guess it depends. Good going so far...

DogMa....the "Turtle Club" sounds like a great idea. I wonder if the administrators would consider adding something like that to the forum? Like yourself I am postmenopausal, short and over 50.....I really haven't been a yo-yo dieter, but find the older I get the harder it is to drop excess pounds. I have never exercised per se, but am one of those people who can never sit still.

Sidrah......I drink more than the 64 oz. of water required. The odd thing is that I started walking two miles a day on a treadmill and that's when the weight loss stopped. So I stopped walking everyday, still no loss......So, I think I am just going to get back to the walking and not worry about it. I haven't lost any weight in the past two weeks, although I know I have lost inches, suppose it's all relative.

I don't lose ANYthing when I try to work out (no pounds, not even inches really). I'm trying to find a balance right now because I don't want to cut out exercise entirely. I tried adding a shake on days that I worked out, but it didn't help. My latest experiment is just a short workout (Walk Away the Pounds Power Mile) every other day (I was doing the 2-mile pretty much every day before this).

I think some of us just have more trouble losing when we work out.

Patti, are you also hungrier since you started walking? I was much hungrier, and thought about cheating a lot more than I normally do.

Robin.....I think I did experience more hunger when I exercised. I read one of your previous posts about working out and decided yesterday to stop. I was out of town during the weekend so I didn't walk for four days and the scale finally moved down 1 lb. this morning. I was beginning to wonder about the weight loss stall, it seemed odd to me to plateau so soon (during weeks 3 and 4 of the diet). Anyway, like yourself, I suppose I will wait until I am closer to my goal weight to begin exercising.

I'm stuck too apparently.

I lost 6lbs the first week and in the second week I played with 2lbs - lost it gained it lost it gained it blah blah blah....now starting on week 3 I am down a totoal of 6.5 lbs - very depressing to me actually. I do feel better and less bloated so I'm sticking with it - but I have to say I am so bloody bummed that it is just NOT coming off.

I was thinking maybe Exercise would jump things up - but now I'm sort of afraid to try after reading this!! LOL - guess I'll just keep plodding along for a while longer before I try it. DANG I hope some of this weight budges - it would really bum me out to not lose another ounce here.

It'll happen, Maria, but it sounds like you need to be patient like the rest of us slow losers. It's not fair, I know.

You might talk to your HA or just try a couple of variations to see if they help: an extra shake a day, more water, etc. I've even found that if I'm REALLY stuck - no change in a couple of weeks - an off-plan meal can help. I'll be up for a couple of days afterward, but then three days later, I'll be DOWN a pound from where I started. (My off-plan meals aren't crazy binges, though. They're pretty controlled, and they're limited to just that one meal, then right back on the plan.) It's not something I'd recommend, but it has worked for me. Jan has suggested that it might work because I need more calories and should have an extra shake a day even without working out, but I haven't tried that yet.

I'm a turtle too!

Postby shortstuff » February 7th, 2006, 1:34 pm

Hi everybody who's a slow loser!

Actually this diet is working better for me than anything else ever has, but that still doesn't mean I will keep up with the folks who are losing fast. I lost 4 lbs. the first wk, 1 the second, and so far 2 more the third week, for a grand total of 7. I am exercising on a stationary bike, about 2 miles a day, which is less than my usual 3 miles. I think the excercise helps everything to firm up while you're losing and is really good for the morale too.

If you use percentages instead of actual lbs., that helps you see the progress you are making.

10% of 40 lbs. is 4 lbs. for someone small.

A person who needs to lose 140 has to lose 14 lbs. before they get to the 10% level.

I graph my loses on a piece of paper with small sqs. I love seeing the downward line and I don't want to do anything that jeopardizes my progress.

I would love to have a turtle forum for all of us who plod along!!!

Fay :D :D :D
