a little question

Postby crazedreamer » January 29th, 2006, 8:03 am

I started my first day today (just finished my first meal) and am going to the grocery store to purchase my lean and green components. I actually have 2 questions.

1. What kind of marinate can I use? I am intending to grill most of my meat (maybe stir fry some days) but not sure what to look for for seasonings and marinades.

2. I have a bag of frozen vegetables in the freezer, can I use them or do I have to have fresh veggies?

Thanks!

As far as marinades go I personally use Walden Farms or carefully read the nutrition info and ingredients (sugar is used in many marinades). You can certainly use frozen veggies(just no carrots!!!) I personally use canned veggies as they a practically premeasured for the program!!

Have fun shopping

I use the Walden Farms or several other brands (Vermont something is one of 'em; they make the best sugar-free teriyaki sauce I've found; Vermont Maple Grove, maybe??) that carry low- or no-fat and low-carb marinades or dry rubs (or salad dressings, which also work well).

And frozen's fine, as long as they don't have sauce.

Thanks for your replies. I managed to find Walden farms sauces and the BBQ marinade. At first I was really dissapointed after looking at the salad dressing isle and then I decided to check the organic section and found it there! Was even more surprised that they weren't any more expensive from the regular dressings. :) I bought my meat and vegetables for the week and am very excited. My husband is supporting me by having a lean and green meal with me for dinner so I won' be tempted. Thanks again!

Welcome Craze.....
You are going to have lots of fun marinating and fixing. You can spice things up adding spices too. Just watch out for sugar in some of the prepared things. Don't forget you can grill your meat -- like chicken --and make yourself one big delicious salad. The Walden Farms dressings work great. This makes a really filling meal -- 2 cups of salad and 1/4 cup of veggies on top is a lot. I like to do shisk - a - bobs too. Marinate my meat, cut up veggies, (I like mushroom, onions and zuchinni) and bar-b-que it. You'll soon have lots of new recipes to try!

I was going to suggest Walden Farms, also. I also get the Carb Option ones that have no sugar. I am not a big fan of barbecue sauce, but they do have marinades and A-1.

I also buy the fish that is flavored, those griled Gordon's ones that have salmon or regular whatever fish they use. I like the ceasar one. It goes good with zucchini/mushroom combo in Walden farm's marinara. mmmmm
