Honey BBQ Spices - First Ingredient Is Sugar

Postby ascicles » March 30th, 2006, 8:04 am

Yesterday I bought some Honey BBQ spice from the local grocery store and sprinkled a little bit on my chicken. It was pretty good, in fact, the only bbq spice that I've actually found to have a real BBQ taste to it. When I was looking at the label though, I noticed that the first ingredient was sugar. Nothing was listed in terms of how many grams.

I don't think this will throw me out of ketosis, since it was no more than a teaspoon (if that), but I'm curious about whether this is something that can be used. If not, can someone suggest a good spice to use...that actually tastes like real bbq?

I personally read all the labels on all the spices I purchase and if they have any sugar I stay away from it. I did find a chicken rotesserie spice with no sugar by McCormicks that is great and a Roasted Garlic and Herb spice that is wonderful on chicken!

Hope this helps

Walden Farms has calorie/fat/carb/sugar free BBQ sauce that's really good. They have a few different kinds.
