Favourite Movies

Postby alpha femme » June 30th, 2006, 4:32 pm

So, what are some of your favourite movies?

How about TV shows?

i'm really into foreign and indie films. but you know we all have that movie or two that makes us feel good for whatever reason. <whspers> i like beauty and the beast. don't ask me why. it always makes me feel better.

besides, where else can you get the line "i'm especially good at expactorating"?

I am not a real mainstream type movie person. Normally I go for the movie on the shelf of the video store that has only one copy available and the Sundance logo is on the front of the case.

In no particular order
Some of my all time favorites are....

North by Northwest (really anything by Hitchcock but this one is my favorite)
Cosi
Bulworth (my crispy crab cakes comment in another thread was derived from this movie)
Groundhog Day
Stealing Beauty
Chasing Amy
A Long Kiss Goodnight
Jackie Brown
Lord of War
Three Kings
Get Shorty
Le Femme Nikita (foreign)
Nine Queens (foreign)
Chocolat
Das Boot (foreign)
Hunt for Red October
Any James Bond as long as it is Sean Connery
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Layer Cake
Payback
Harold and Maude

I am sure I am leaving a few out....but I could be happy on a desert island with this list.

Okay--here goes--Ya'll are going to all think I am a weird o, but o well I guess.

An Officer And A Gentleman
Dirty Dancin
(I just love where Baby gets "rescued" from her dad, and in Officer, I love the scene where Richard Gere goes to the paper plant and sweeps Debra Winger up into his arms and carries her out of that place FOREVER!)

I really like "Hide and Seek" it was a spooky, realistic thriller
Annie is another feel good movie
Van Wilder
ET
The Shining

TV---hmmmmmm
Happy Days
Nip/Tuck
Amazing Race
Golden Girls
Sex and the City
Two and 1/2 Men
Days of Our Lives
The Young and The Restless (I have only watched it for 5 1/2 years. It was my great grandmother's favorite show. After she died, I started watching it---I really loved her---and everyday, I write in a journal a little note to her and tell her what Victor has been up to. Same with DOOL--only my other great grandma, and been watching it much longer)
Read Between the Lions (I watch this with my kiddos on PBS)
CSI
House
That 70's Show

I am more into the IFC and Sundance channel type stuff. But, of course, there are some others.

Godfather 1 and 2....3 sucked

Goodfellas (let's be honest anything with Robt. DeNiro or Al Pacino)

Stupid funny- Zoolander and Space Balls (I can watch start to finish Zoolander every time it is on and still laugh)

I like foreign stuff and some sing songy stuff. Like Dirty Dancing, Sing )has anyone aside from me ever seen that? No one seems to know what it is), Rent, Camp

I like mostly anything, but I go for drama, foreign, historical.

I am really not into cartoony stuff. I could never stand it, but Shrek was okay since it was more adult humor.

I watch movies all the time with my handy-dandy Netflix service; however, many are just okay. The only ones I can think of right now that I truly love are:

Pretty Woman
The Hunt for Red October
The Life of David Gale

Movies I've seen a million times and will probably see a million more:

The Wizard of Oz
When Harry Met Sally ...
The Princess Bride
The Shawshank Redemption
Sleepless in Seattle
Diehard

Never Been Kissed cracks me up because she's a copy editor. With her own office and an assistant. Which every copy editor I know finds hilarious.

Shutter (awesomely scary)
Dark Water (the original)
Ringu
Shaolin Soccer and nearly every Stephen Chow movie that comes out.
God of Cookery (Stephen Chow's take on God of Gamblers which is also an awesome series of movies staring Chow Yun-Fat)
The Killer
Hard Boiled (wickedly awesome action staring Chow Yun-Fat)

ok i'm gonna stop now... i could freaking well go on and on with this. TOO MANY MORE TO LIST!

i do not tend to watch television. it's mostly a "let's see what is on" situation. if there's something on i'll like, i'll watch it.

i am a fan of shows such as The Office (UK), Spaced, Doctor Who, The Young Ones, Black's Books, Adam and Joe Go Tokyo!, Blackadder, Monty Python's Flying Circus... and so on and so forth.
