Am i doing this right???

Postby QT2Lose45 » October 13th, 2006, 6:48 am

So it's day 4... Day 3 was a breeze! I was expecting it to be worse than day 2 (headache day). Which is why i'm wondering if i'm doing this right...

I've been trying to carefully measure my L&G... the first night i had a chkn breast and 2 c veggies (1 c after i cooked them). The next night i had 5oz cooked salmon and 1 1/2 c broccoli (salmon had a little spinach in it). then last night i had a steak (98% ff round filet) and after i grilled it on George, it was exactly 5 oz. it was harder to measure my veggies... i had about 1/4 c mushrooms on steak, 5-6 round slices of eggplant and 6 asparagus spears.

My question: is the weight of the meats is before cooked or after? Cuz it seems like a pretty big meal! on my chicken and fish night, i found i was actually under the 7 oz... I felt like i was cheating or something cuz my plate (i am using a salad plate) is overflowing.

I have to go on a business trip for a week, and i'm a little worried about it. I am taking all my 'meals' for during the day, but i know everyone is going to be going to dinner all together. I'm thinking if i stick w/ grilled chkn/seafood and steamed veggies, i'll be okay... or a small steak and veggies... i'm just gonna have to watch the portions. Any advise?

Please tell me if i'm doing my L&G right... cuz i feel like i'm eating ALOT of food for dinner (I'm not complaining, cuz believe me, do i look forward to it!!!

Thanks....

everything is supposed to be measured after it is cooked, unless you are planning to leave it raw. As I was told when I was new, you should make sure to eat all of your L&G because it is the exact right formula for weight loss.

it sounds to me like you are doing it right, and if you work it, it will work!!

As for the business trip, your plan sounds like a good one, but what I do is ask for a to-go box when your food arrives. Then I decide exactly how much I am going to eat, and pack the rest away so that I am not tempted to over eat. Also, if you get steamed veggies, ask if they come with butter, because if they do, you should request the butter-free version.

I hope this helps, and I'm sure others will be along to give you hints and encouragement. You are doing FANTASTIC. Keep up the good work.

Yes, it sounds like the one problem is not eating enough protein. It should be weighed after cooking, and it's important to have all of it.

And Allie's right. Just ask any questions you need to about how things are prepared and what is added, and don't be afraid to ask for what you want. If you have a salad, it's helpful to ask for the dressing on the side and just dip your fork in it before each bite. You'd be surprised at how little dressing you actually need.

I also frequently would get steak when I ate out, because most places give you the weight beforehand, so you can guesstimate (a 6-ounce portion will most likely end up as about 5 ounces cooked, unless you like it well done). With chicken and fish, sometimes places don't give you a full 7 ounces cooked and you'll end up with too little protein.

BUT i'm prepared, i have a chicken breast, my george grill and a bowl of veggies for me.... I've already made my choco pudding to have as my last meal and something to look forward to at the end of the night :)

The only other things I would add is that Salmon is fish, so that's 7 oz, not the 5 oz you mentioned. The quick start guide says 7 oz of chicken, fish, or turkey. 5 oz of lean beef, pork, or lamb.
In the last few months, with questions to Dr. Anderson and Nancy, we have been told that if the L&G is too big at once, you can split the meal into two parts during the day, but make sure you get all of the protein in.
Pre WLS 460
Low after WLS 300
Start of MF 350
Previous MF low 280
Restart MF 330

Remember, IF you split the meal, split BOTH the lean protein AND the green veggies -- half servings at EACH smaller meal. Make sure at the end of the day, your total is right. (Just to clarify my dh's posting above.)

THanks everyone....

I don't think i'll have to split the meal! I'm actually happy i can eat more with my meal

Made it throught last night, no probs... just thought (as i ate my veggies and chkn) that what i was having was good for my body and reminded myself of that famous quote: "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"... I swear this is my motto now.... i must repeat it to myself about 50 million times a day in my head! :D

THanks for being there.... it's so good to have the forum to get advice!

Loving MF program so far! I'm gonna weigh tomorrow... not quite a week, but since i'll be away i just wanna see my progress!
