I love gadgets but where we live there is no cell phone signal so I can only use mine when away from home (we get a signal about 8 miles away from our home). I finally gave up on a monthly plan (because I so seldom use the phone) and went to one of those 'pay for minutes as you go phones' (Tracphone is the one I use and it works well). I buy a year card, which gives me 250 minutes, only turn it on when I want to use it or am traveling out of town.....and sadly, 250 minutes lasts me longer than a year. It ain't pretty.....(the phone) but it is what works the best for our circumstances. I wish I could have a cool phone. ;)

LOL.......nah, I do have some gadgets, but just not phone ones. I'm still lusting after a laptop---wireless of course! But financially I've not been intelligent in the last year so I need to wait until my debt on my credit card is taken care of. Rotten to owe when I'm getting to the point where I'm eager to begin shopping for a new wardrobe. Guess that will keep me focused on paying off the cc! ;)

Biki,

I was in the mall the night they released the phones and I almost stood in line to get one. Fortunately, I was able to talk myself out of it. I absolutely do not need a $500 phone. I drop my phone so much and I'm really not important enough for the calendar and I have made it all this time without an ipod so I don't need it. Plus, I don't have any friends to show it off to who would think it was a wise purchase. They would all just hassle me for spending the money and for being duped by all the hype. Don't get me wrong, it looks cool, but I can live pretty darn good without it :)

So far, the reviews have been pretty positive - everything except for the speed of the AT&T network for browsing the internet.

That's actually why I won't even consider one right now. I hate AT&T and have refused to be a customer of the company for years. Ever since they cut off my long-distance with no notice when I missed one bill (which I didn't receive) - after at least 10 years as a customer. And then when I complained, the person on the phone told me, "Well, you should have paid your bill then!" I canceled my service then and there, and swore I'd never go back.

So maybe when the iPhone comes down in price AND is available with other cell services, I'll consider it. [/rant]

Personally, as an Apple guy, I think the iPhone would be great. I am not going to get one anytime soon though. As with the iPod, the first generation, although good, its not the best yet.
I would wait for 2nd gen before buying to see what the revisions will be.

It's the internet access that is holding me back now too. I hear the speed is that of a dial-up.

I would have one except we don't have AT&T cell service in our area. Sooooo, when the price comes down and the service choices increase, I'll get one, I'm sure. I love the idea of phone/ipod all in one. I don't care about the internet access. I have that now and don't really like using it on the small screen. I'm never far from my laptop.

We've had AT&T for years. Then they turned into Cingular and now they are AT&T again. Wish they would make up their minds.

The other thing I don't like is a basic Apple complaint. As with all Apple stuff, you're restricted to using only their products. Like, I love my iPod, but I HATE that I can only use iTunes (unless I want to go to a WHOLE lot of trouble to download music elsewhere, save it to a CD and THEN load the songs into iTunes).

With, say, my pocket PC, I can read books in multiple formats, load music from all over, load pretty much any software I want onto it. Much like my regular PC, which has all kinds of things added to it that couldn't be added to a Mac.
