"i believe our society is set up for the food addict to fail."

I don't think society did this to you on purpose. Sure, the advertisers want you to crave their food and go get some. But they don't expect you to gorge on their food 5 times a day. If anyone chooses to do that it is their own fault- no one else's.

If you are so mad at the commercials, be a rebel! Turn off the TV and go for a walk!

im working toward the choosing to walk part for sure! im glad to hear that someday i will be able to make that choice!

and, robin, i LOVE your idea of picking up the vaccum!

i dont think that society makes me fat, i think that it makes it easy to be fat if you have a food problem in the first place. i know that i have put myself in this place. i just wanted to say that those like me with food issues, whether they be compulsive overeaters or those with severe food restriction issues, triggers exist. those triggers could be a photo of a supermodel or a cheeseburger, a bad grade on a test, boredom, self-loathing, the onset of puberty, etc. and these things can lead to a session of overeating or long-term restriction.

i believe that everyone's weight issues are different and it is cool reading these posts and learning that some day i may be able to stop obsessing about food and learn how to handle life in a different, more healthy way. i wish that i didnt view food in this way. believe me, it is really hard to face and is hard to admit. it can be embarassing and dismissed as a weakness in character, which is why i wanted to open this discussion. for some being fat is a symptom for something other than loving food. i happen to use food for other reasons than just eating for eating's sake!

oh and by the way, raederie's point was wonderful, and i have also been down that road. i was obsessed with oatmeal at one point!

thank you guys! im going to get my vaccum out now!

talk soon

OK, you're talking to the person who for a while was having oatmeal three times a day - and sometimes even more.

But more progress: I LOVE the soy crisps, but I've had no problem keeping them to once a day. True, I look forward to them every day, but I can live with that.

Very much enjoyed reading this thread. I just want to chime in and say that I too am a food addict. I have always been an "all or none" type of person which is why the complete plan works well for me. My trouble is when I try to co-mingle a healthy lifestyle with real life. If I'm on MF then I do very well, but if I'm eating real food then I tend to make all the wrong choices. I have a lot of growing to do by the time I reach my goal weight. I suspect that I will be on MF for the rest of my life in some shape or form.

Wow. I guess it came across that I was a little angrier about the TV thing that I really am. :dooh:

I find the world full of expectations that I can't meet- including my own. Very recently, I have come into a place of peace in my life where I set expectations that I can meet and work hard to ignore the rest.

It is hard not to be frustrated to see thin people eating what they want and "getting away with it". My metabolism has never worked that way. But I am so grateful to have found a program and group of people who allow me to work with my strengths AND weaknesses to train my body nonetheless. :D :D :D

I do not blame anyone for me being overweight. I spent years doing that, and it never made me any healthier. MY body is MY responsibility, and no one can take care of it but me. (WOW-that feels good to say!) 8)

I do get frustrated with the conflicting messages in the media. Commercials that tell my kids that good moms bake fresh cookies (right out of hte package!!!) and news programs that tell me I'm making my kids fat. Those kinds of things. There are so many conflicting messages out there that I'm amazed ANY of us are healthy! :x

Thank you all for an interesting thread and honest opinions. I feel so blessed to have fallen into this group! ;)

YOU ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL!!!!
