Another new chicklet

Hi,

I'm Cat from Sacramento and I just started the plan (5 & 1) yesterday. No problems so far (except soup "issues" which I posted in the Lean Cuisine forum). I might be a little different from other folks here, as I was told to start this plan temporarily to get some weight off for surgery. Regardless, I look forward to good results and am pleasantly surprised that I haven't had any hunger/ craving issues thus far except the need to "crunch" on something (so I have half a pickle or wait until my L & G meal).

This plan works great to part with the pounds. Check out the studio and you'll find several people who have parted with 70 and much more. It is great. :D Just be compliant -- remember your tastes change-- and those pounds will be going.

I'm cruising around looking at forums and I'm specifically looking for assistance with being on the go, travelling, camping, etc -- I don't want to clutter this forum with that info, so can anyone point me towards discussions/ help with these topics? I am constantly on the go, generally camping or travelling a couple of weekends a month, not to mention being in class from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on some days with maybe 15 minutes between classes. While I know I'll only be on this meal plan for a few months until I'm in surgery, I would SO appreciate any tips. I have a couple of camping trips coming up and a weekend away in Ashland...

Hi,
I'm away from home 260-280 days per year and live out of a suitcase, so I guess I'm qualified to answer that question.

The RTD's are the BEST for those between class days. That's ready to drink meals. They're portable, packable, and wonderful! They're in containers similar to juice boxes.

I haven't been camping, but I am stuck at racetracks without a microwave a lot. I make the cream of broccoli and cream of chicken soups with hot water from the coffee maker.

While on the go, I make my cold drinks AND my shakes in 16oz water bottles, that makes them very travelable (that's a word...now).

Also, I freeze my bar the night before so they're not gooey in my backpack all day. PM me if you have ANY specific questions!

Hi Cat and welcome.

What part of Ashland are you going to? My hubby and I went to Ashland for our Honeymoon and went to the Shakespeare Festival there back in July '72. It was a great venue and we camped at Howard Prairie Lake Resort up in the hills where there was some great trout fishing.

Will you be camping there... or just going to see the plays or...?

Welcome Cat...I live in Placerville and work in Sacramento, so we're sort of neighbors. I'm going camping this weekend too. I will just take bottled water and my tupperware shaker that I use to mix up my shakes. I like the soups, but after you heat it in the micro, let it sit for 20-30 minutes and reheat. Not very practical between classes, so you might save that for after you get home. Oatmeal is easy for in the morning before classes and a bar is quick and easy in between. If you have a little insulated lunch sack, you could pre-mix a couple shakes or do the RTD's and throw in a bar and a small blue ice and you're set for the day. Traveling, I would try to get hotel rooms with a micro or at least a coffee pot so you could get boiling water. They also make a little electric pot that boils water that you could pack and take for making hot water for soups and cocoa. I like the chai latte myself.
Are you at Sac State? I'm just across Folsom Blvd at the SMUD bldg. Some day we could do a lean and green at lunch!

Dede: Thanks for the RTD info; I hadn't bought any on my first order because I thought they were too pricey, but I may need to buckle down and get some for certain times when I'm on walkabout/ in class.

Carmel: We're going to the Shakespeare Fest. We go every year and hotel it. We're basically packing in 4 or 5 plays in a weekend, heh. We do camping, but it's from late February - late October with our historical recreation group.

Shadow: Thanks for the soup tip. I'm going to try and see if I can bring shakes in a thermos, but it's going to be a pill to carry all my stuff between classes (SO getting a rolling backpack). Definitely will be trying the hot-water-in-the-coffee-pot thing in the hotel room. And no, I'm not at Sac State yet, still at ARC getting classes under my belt. Really hoping to be at CSUS next year!

Thanks everyone for the tips and such! I'll figure it out as I go -- going to Santa Cruz Boardwalk on the 8th will be a REAL challenge, heh. I am loving the shakes and I totally dig the shaker-mixer, it works so well. I reckon that will work when I'm out if I just order an ice water, measure out some of the water and ice and put them in my shaker cup and mix.

Hi Cat,
I order the RTD's by the case (24) because we get a 10% discount on anything we order by the case...makes them a bit easier to swallow price-wise!
