My Happy Anniversary
Hello and Howdy Doody ~
Ahh..February was definitely a LOVEly month! My work schedule at
the college has been hectic ever since our campus moved to its
new location the last week of December. We began the winter term
with a paralyzing snow and ice storm, which put us one week
behind schedule. With an increased work load at the college,
sharing my office space with a new department, our family and
church involvement and personal speaking engagements, I felt
like a hamster running on an ever-spinning wheel. Mid-February
found me in need of some personal space for physical rest and
some time to renew my spirit.
Ta Da! Terry came to my rescue! He took Leopard Woman to San
Francisco for Valentine’s weekend. We had an absolute blast!
Valentine’s weekend has special significance to me because after
an incredible seven month weight loss journey with Medifast, I
reached my goal weight exactly one year ago, February 14th,
2003.
As I neared my 130 pound weight loss in 2003, my husband
rewarded me with a heart-shaped box of truffles delivered to our
home from the San Francisco candy shop of Joseph Schmidt
Confections.
Yeah, yeah, I know - a food reward may not be the best
inducement for a person on a weight loss program but the box of
handmade truffles proved to be a nice incentive for moi. Yup, I
love the Dutch Chocolate Medifast 55 shakes and the richness of
its chocolaty flavor does indeed satisfy my ‘chocolate tooth’
but there’s something really special about the deep dark
chocolate flavor of Joseph’s truffles that seems to quench my
thirst for chocolate like nothing else this side of heaven!
Since I am celebrating my one year anniversary for maintaining
my weight – which by the weigh, is the very best part of this
whole program – Terry wanted to reward me in a unique weigh.
Rather than order a box of candy to be delivered to me here in
Vancouver, he actually took me to the candy shop! In San
Francisco!
Here’s how our adventure came about –
We attended an evening meeting Thursday, Feb 12th, 2004 in
Tualatin, Oregon with Dr. Wayne Andersen, Medical Director of
Medifast and Take Shape For Life and also met Leo Williams, III
the new CEO of Take Shape For Life. I was so excited about the
way people are being helped by Medifast that I could hardly
sleep! Dr. Andersen told us that Medifast is the answer to the
medical problems of the twenty-first century! Medifast is
changing the way we look at food, helping people to reclaim
their health and is doing it nutritionally, not
pharmaceutically. Many people were in attendance that evening
and I enjoyed meeting them and telling them about my own weight
loss success and subsequent health benefits.
We got home well after midnight and both had some last minute
things to complete before we left town for the weekend. While he
printed the church bulletin, I packed our bags and rested for an
hour and fifteen minutes. Guess that’s what some people call a
“Power Nap.” It’s a good thing we use Medifast for good
nutrition and energy because we had both been burning the candle
at both ends all week long. When I weighed 258 pounds, I never
would have been able to keep on going and going! Now I do NOT
recommend that you get by on 75 minutes of sleep on a regular
basis, but sometimes Leopard Woman has to hurry to get all of
the things done she wants to do!!
That other special man in my life, Unca took us to the airport
at 4:30 AM where we met Steve and Bon-Bon Wills (Gosh, don’tcha
just love that name? Her real live name is Bonnie. She has such
a sunny disposition and is just as sweet as a bonbon and so I
like to call her ‘Bon-Bon’. Steve and Bon-Bon are part of our
MakeMeThinner Team of certified Health Advisors.) We left early
Friday morning for a little rest and relaxation and to celebrate
my one year anniversary of maintaining my 130 pound weight
loss. Woo Hoo, Leopard Woman!
The four of us really needed some time to just rest and then to
have a break from the winter rains of the northwest. In addition
to all of the normal SF things to do: Fisherman’s Wharf,
Ghirardelli Square, The Cannery, Lombard Street, Cable Cars, The
Aquarium, The Rain Forest Restaurant, galleries, shops,
Sausalito & Tiburon, etc. I ABSOLUTELY had to go to
Joseph Schmidt Confections for truffles in a little handmade
Papier Mache batik box.
Joseph Schmidt was in Tokyo Valentine weekend (Drat!) so I
didn’t get to meet him in person. However, I did have my picture
taken while standing next to his photo on display in his shop.
His confectionary is but a teensy weensy little corner shop but,
Boy, howdy! is it ever packed with delectable chocolate
sculptures, his famous truffles and beautiful fresh flowers!
I enjoyed watching people enter the shop, select their candies
and leave with their packages carefully tucked under their arms.
By the way, most folks left with a chocolate smear on their lips
due to the generous samples of mini truffles!
Some people inquired about the chocolate mosaics, some knew
immediately what they wanted and made their request known;
others looked at every truffle flavor and pondered long before
making their final selection. We knew exactly what we wanted and
selected six truffles PLUS one of those pretty Papier Mache
batik boxes of mosaics and we were off for another adventure in
San Francisco. Because we can.
We got plenty of exercise because the sidewalks of SF are at a
forty-five degree angle and most of them go upward. I don’t
think we did much downhill walking…
Parking spaces are at a premium in San Francisco, one must
circle the blocks for a LONG time before finding a place to
park. It cost $28 per night to park the car…this is totally
foreign to me – we don’t do that here in Vancouver, Washington!
We would have been able to see more sights and visit clients in
the SF area had we been able to navigate the streets of San
Francisco more efficiently!
Because people have to wait in line to do everything there –
ride the cable cars (We waited over an hour in the c-c-c-old
night air for a ride near the Wharf!), find a space to park, get
a cup of coffee at Starbuck’s, etc., Medifast certainly comes in
handy – it is so convenient to rip off the bendy straw from the
side of a Ready To Drink Medifast 55 or Fit! Drink box, poke it
into the top of the drink box and slurp away! We dined on Lemon
Fantasy and Oatmeal Raisin Bars while waiting in line to see the
sights.
Terry and I hiked up Lombard Street, fully fueled by our Meal
Bars and never huffed or puffed one bit because we are at a
healthy weight. I had a great Medifast Anniversary and we are
confident that you, too can reach and maintain optimal health.
You’ll be having many Medifast memories and anniversaries, too.

Tool Time
When I was a little girl, my Daddy was a cement finisher and
contractor. Sometimes on Saturday mornings, he’d take me to work
with him. There were times that he and I would remove the forms
after a large pour had set up. He would pull out the stakes and
rip up the bender boards and my job was to put the stakes in
buckets and help to put away the tools. He had a vast array of
tools, each one specialized. One of my favorite tools had such a
funny name – it was known the ‘jitterbug’, a heavy iron mesh
screen with a waist-high handle used for tamping the rocks down
into the wet concrete so the cement could rise to the top.
Once the mud had risen to the top, he used the gas powered
troweling machine for smoothing the surface of large pours.
There was a prescribed order for finishing the cement. One would
never use the jitterbug after having troweled the surface; the
jitterbug would have left weird impressions on a smooth surface.
Daddy taught me to plan ahead, to use the appropriate tool for
its prescribed job, to take good care of tools and to return
them to their proper place so they would be in good repair and
available when needed for the next job.

As many of you know, I am a “Pastorette” and a Bible verse that
I especially like is found in the New Testament book of 2
Timothy 2:15 and says, “Study to show your self approved.” To
me, it means that if I wanna get smart, I need to be willing to
learn and that I need to study – to do all that I can to be
prepared, to be ready to learn. That means that I need to gather
all the available tools together and then use them appropriately
if I am to be successful.
I can be very willing to learn but not have the necessary tools.
I won’t be able to do the job unless I have the proper tools.
I can have the proper tools but if I don’t know how to use the
tools, I won’t be able to successfully get the job done.
I can have the proper tools, know how to use them and not get
the job done because I am not motivated to do the job.
Where are you in the learning process?
The MakeMeThinner Team of Health Advisors have the tools you
need to be successful: we feature the latest selection of
quality Medifast products.
We will teach you how to use the tools: read the MakeMeThinner
Newsletters (check out the archives
http://www.makemethinner.com/newsletter/); read the posts on
the
http://www.makemethinner.com/forum/; read and re-read the
“Quick Start” booklet that comes with your initial order of
Medifast; order and read Success in a Shaker Jar by Linda
Spangle, RN, MA. Take advantage of the Nurses’ Support Call or
our Doctors support Call.
• Be willing to learn
• Study to show yourself approved
• Be committed to learn
Your personal Health Advisor is like having your very own
personal trainer.
We want to be your accountability coach, if you’ll let us!
Another Lesson Learned
On a hot summer day my family picnicked under the shade of a
tree at Blue Lake Park, on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. I
was a teenager and vividly recall an example of people having
the tools but not the knowledge of what to do with them.
Two very cool young men drove up to the boat ramp in a brand new
electric blue pickup truck. As they backed down the ramp, I
noticed that the matching blue speed boat appeared so new that
it practically had price tags dangling from the twin Mercury
motors.
One guy hopped out of the pickup and hand signaled the driver to
slowly back into the water. I watched in amusement as the
truck’s exhaust pipes blew bubbles in the lake. After jockeying
in and out of the water a number of times and manipulating the
chains and ropes, the guide was able to set the speedboat free
from the trailer and float it near the wooden boat ramp. The
driver parked the pickup in the nearby field and headed for the
boat ramp to join his buddy.
The two men carefully laid out all the ski equipment on the ramp
in preparation for a day on the lake. They slathered on sun
block, shared a cold one, checked the throttle and revved the
engine.
With one man behind the wheel of the boat, the other put on a
ski belt, sat in the shallow water, donned the water skis and
then proceeded to TIE the tow ropes to his wrists and sat back
the water. Yep, I indeedy doo, I did write that the skier TIED
the tow ropes to his wrists…
The boat driver turned his head, looked over his shoulder and
hollered, “Are you ready, Man?”
The skier replied, “Start rowing that boat!”
The driver hit the forward throttle and the dude on the skis
lunged forward, face into the water and practically had his arms
ripped out at the pits!
He screamed in agony as a crowd of onlookers vacillated between
laughter and empathy. Poor guy had his shoulders dislocated! As
soon as the ambulance arrived, we went back to our picnic. The
dudes in the swanky boat had all the latest equipment but they
did not have the “know how.”
You determine WHY you wanna lose weight, we’ll tell you HOW –
we’ll provide you with the necessary health tools that you need

Speedin’ into Spring
As I write this, it is 67 degrees here in The Couve and we had
out first dinner al fresco – yup, we dined on the patio tonight.
We watched as a blue heron flew over our home, eying the fish in
our pond. Forsythia and daffodils glow in the back flowerbeds
and a rabbit nibbles the heads off the purple crocus. Squirrels
cavort on the fence and the clematis inches its way out of the
warmed soil toward the trellis. It is nearly 7 PM and a snort of
daylight remains along the western horizon as an orange full
moon climbs in the eastern sky.
Spring is spronging up right now and then very shortly summer
will sizzle upon the scene. You know what that means: shorts,
bathing suits, sleeveless shirts and tank tops.
Are you Speedo® material? Gulp!
Do you wanna be wearing a coat and long pants this summer when
your friends are wearing Capri pants and a T shirt or cargo
shorts and a tank top?
Shape up with Take Shape For Life!
If you keep on doing what you are doing right now, will you be
ready for summer? Two months from now, will you wish you had
gotten started sooner?
If you start now, you could safely lose thirty or forty pounds
by summer.
I changed my clothing size and I changed my life!

different sites I found selling the product, and your site
definitely offers the most support. The user forum is great!
I've printed out a lot of recipes that I'm looking forward to
trying. And I've also ordered some of the sugar-free flavored
syrups that were mentioned several times in the forum."
"The forum is great too, I get TONS of support there."
"Down 3.5 for me this week... for a total of 35lbs... I started
to be disappointed by the pounds lost this week and then
realized ---AM I KIDDING??!!!! I am down a total of 35 POUNDS in
about 45 days ----- I AM THRILLED! "
