I got that HcG number. She said mine was 7.5. She said it should be 7 or lower. My fasting blood sugar was 135. My cholesterol and triglycerides were so high she put me on Lipitor (or however it is spelled)! icon_twisted.gif My cholesterol was 250 and tris were 313. My sister weighs over 340 and hers are lower icon_confused.gif I am happy for her but STILL! I blame all those months of Stouffer's again...the mac and cheese and lasagnas! She says my diabetes should be controllable with my Actos and diet. So that was a good thing...

Hey that's EXCELLENT! 7.7 I believe is what I was at in March after just 3 weeks on MF. Previous to that it had been 9.something icon_eek.gif So you are in a VERY good point to start. I'm sorry about the other meds........but ya know I expect you will see improvements in everything very quickly. I encourage you to have all of that checked again in 3 months and see where you're at. I really think you will be VERY pleased at that point. I will be having all of mine checked again in June. Keep me posted kiddo!

I asked about it because you told me to...but am still a bit confused about what it means. I asked the doctor and said it shows how your sugar has been over the last 6 months? How do they know that from one test? She was poking around in my ears at the time and I was whining about having to go on yet ANOTHER medication, so I am not really clear.

It ACTUALLY gives them an average of 3 months and not 6. It takes your body 3 months to completely recycle your blood supply. There are residuals left in your blood from the sugar it is carrying. So the level in your blood at the time should be an average level of the past 3 months. So if you have alot of highs or alot of lows it all evens out in the end. HOWEVER, people will get a good Hemoglobin A1C because they have alot of really highs but also alot of really lows. That is not good either. Since it is an "average" it can give a false impression to the doctor. However, for the most part........the test is a pretty accurate account of what has been happening with you. That is why the test is done generally every 3 months. clear as mud? lol I may not have explained it just right. I know what I'm trying to tell you. Did I help or make it worse?

You made it a lot better! I had no idea about those residuals in the blood. Before you told me that, I thought it sounded like hoodoo! Thanks so much. I am going to lie down now. Back is KILLING me.

biki ~

Your cholesterol ought to respond to Medifast - mine dropped 110 points.

Unless your cholesterol is a genetic disposition, we would expect yours to lower considerably.

Keep up the good work - for the health of it!

Hey Biki - Welcome back. I was gonna post today and ask if you were lurking somewhere since we haven't heard from you in awhile - you were missed. Of course, you want to MF for your own wonderful results, but I'm thinking what an inspiration you'll be for your sister. We'd love to get our Medi paws on her, too icon_lol.gif . Sounds like you're ticked about the meds, but getting rid of the excess weight should improve things immensely. Hey thanks, Christi, for the heads up on the HA1C explanation. I knew it did an average over 3 months (sounded like hoodoo to me too, Biki), but didn't understand the concept.

Dear Nancy, Good grief! If your cholesterol dropped 110 pts, what was it to start with!? Whoa. This diet is amazing.

My cholesterol is normal, which is ironic. With all the conflicting "news" we read about just what the scientists know about obesity, one thing is clear: it's hard to untangle genetics, culture, emotions, etc. as they relate to obesity. The news trumpeting that the risks of obesity have been overrated should not fool anyone: sure, the scientists may disagree on certain points, but it's clear that a great excess of flabbage is not good for the health!

My BP was 142/90 and currently is 106/65.

My cholesterol was 270; LDL 117 Triglycerides 211

Haven't had them taken yet this year (am scheduled for June 15th) but last year, my cholesterol was 160; LDL = 71 and my triglycerides were also 71.

I really have no idea what any of it means; I can barely remember my telephone numbers but my doc indicated it was great - she hand-lettered, "Wow! Very impressive, Nancy!" on the margins of my lab report.

Biki hasn't been around in a long time now. That post is old on this forum. I've sent her a PM but she hasn't answered. I've been concerned about her too.
