I had an appointment with my doctor about my type 2 diabetes today. I was just diagnosed in early March. I was in the hospital at the time for a related illness. Anyway, there I was given a prescription for Actos, a diabetes medication. I ran out last week and called my doctor for a refill. The assistant who answered the phone said I could not get a refill unless I saw the doctor first since she didn't originally prescribe the med. They said I couldn't come in until today at 9:45am. I was not pleased because I need the medication and also because I need to get her Rx for my glucose monitor. So I show up this morning. They have no record of my call or appointment. They refuse to work me in today. They say that the conversation never took place. They say I can't have a prescription. I was feeling irritable before the appointment. I have been having bouts with insomnia, and I had been up since 2am. Well, no more excuses..to make a long story short, I went OFF!!! I dropped the F bomb. I yelled. I yelled at the nurse in the back and then walked through the waiting room yelling...so so embarrassing. I am going to have to find a new doctor so I can get my medicine. I also take stuff for my thyroid. I just lost it because I felt that my doctor did not really care about my health and it hurt my feelings. I guess since I am not covering or stuffing my feelings by overindulging in food or booze, I have a surplus!

I sent you a PM. This doesn't make any sense to me. When you left the hospital there should have been a follow-up appt already scheduled for more tests and discussion and setting you up with a nutritionist (which you don't need right now) and you should have never left the hospital without the glucometer and knowing how to use it ect. This is ridiculous. Is this your usual doctor? You should ask for a referal to an indocrinologist which specializes in diabetes. I mean this is really really wrong on sooooooooooooo many levels!!
Please be in touch with me,

thanks so much for the support. I am going to call my insurance right now and get something set up. The woman was my regular doctor but had only seen me twice before because hubby's company recently switched insurance. I used to have an endicrinologist with my old insurance plan because of my hypothyroidism. I just haven't gotten a new one. I agree the hospital should have set something up. They had a nutritionist come by and visit me in the hospital, but that was just for 20 minutes. My sister when she was diagnosed when to "Diabetes School" where she had classes on her disease and eating right. I will ask about that too!!! Well let me make some phone calls!!!

Well, I talked to the insurance company, BCBS, and they said to tell the doc's office that she MUST resolve this issue within 18 hours. So I should be hearing from her tomorrow. I am going to get my referral to a specialist then pick a new primary care physician.

So sorry I couldn't get to call you last night.....things at my house were a bit chaotic last night about the time I was ready to sit down peacefully and give you a call. icon_confused.gif

I'm glad you got in touch with the insurance company and I certainly hope they get with you and quickly. That was just so irresponsible on their part and i'm ALSO glad you are going to get a new doctor. Good greif!!

Keep me posted...I'm here at work until 7:00 tonight icon_redface.gif
