Good for you! Despite the quote in your signature, the path to weight loss for most of us isn't so straight. There are stalls, there are gains, but all that matters is that you get there and STAY there.

I'm discovering that when I eat off plan, I get terrible insomnia, not sure if that's due to extra calories that are being worked on or just my head doing strange things to me or what... but I don't like it! so on plan is much better for my sleep as well as my body, go figure! icon_lol.gif

I'm also toying with the idea of setting a time for when I want the weight off, I'm trying to decide if I do better with a set time frame or if it puts too much pressure on me... thinking about it... hmmmmmmm

That is why we are supposed to "trust in the Lord" He can make any path straight. With Him "All things are possible".

Jazoe - setting a date for reaching your goal can be a good idea because it could help you stick to the plan when you feel like cheating. Just remember that your body might not be on the same time frame as you. I know that sounds corny, but you know what I mean.

Prezactly. Having a goal is great... and its something to aim for. Just remember that we will experience stalls, and things that might keep us exactly on target. As Robin said, we probably won't follow a direct line to the goal.. there are little things that cause us to go left or right.... but ultimately, we stay on the basic path.
Its much like taking a rocket to the moon. Its not a straight path, but rather a bunch of small course corrections along the way, that combine to the right course.

Thankfully, we have the Almighty with us along the way. icon_wink.gif

Hiya, JZ.

All the stuff I've read about making progress through goal setting seems to stress making it specific and quantifiable. So, my advice from what I've learned, set that date! But here's the catch: Thou shalt not flog thyself!! Even if you don't end at the place you've aimed for, you'll make progress you wouldn't have without the push. I'm finally to the point that setting goals I KNOW I'll make isn't nearly as satisfying. I'm enjoying the stretch that comes with the challenge even when I come up short.

I don't know if it's biblical, but I've taken the "straight" in that verse to mean "obvious." In both cases, our journeys toward physical and spiritual health, the road is strewn with obstacles that often grab our attention and get us off course. Our success is getting back on.

See, I'm much more inclined to set goals you have some control over, so it's up to you whether you reach them. Losing a set amount by a certain date isn't something you can control. Staying on program for a set amount of days, or something like that, is.

Specific and quantifiable, I understand. But completely out of your control? Seems like a recipe for failure and disappointment.

aHA, maybe that'll be my goal instead, is "I shall stick to the plan for (x) amount of days" and see how that works out... I've just had trouble in the past by saying "I want to be at my goal weight by Christmas" or whatever and then I get all stressed about it, etcetera... maybe this is a better way to do it...

I shall remain on plan for the next month! *flourish of trumpets*

yeh, me and my excruciating LEG CRAMPS, yowza... *rubs calf*

tonight was good tho, went to a squadron function for hubby's work and they were having pizza and I didn't TOUCH it or the cookies that were all over the place *shrug* I figure I'm in this thing for the long haul, why should I trip myself up by cheating???? and then having to go back thru all that stuff to get into ketosis again, ugh...

the hunger isn't the problem for me, it's the cravings *sigh* and the urge to binge, which pops up at odd times!

okay, I've stepped away from the food and had some mega water and am feeling better icon_biggrin.gif sometimes I just need to explain how I feel, I reallllllly want that feeling I get when I binge (I sound like a druggie!) it's not even about the food so much... hmmmmm, what else can create a happy feeling for me? crafts? a good book? must go explore this....

That is key to not only losing it, but keeping it off. For me, I think bingeing is about freedom. "I don't care what anybody thinks I'm going to eat this and it makes me feel good." I had not considered it a 'high' before but you're totally right on with that - I do it to calm my emotions and that's just as much a drug thing, right? Food is my Prozac or something like that I guess. I can't seem to put my finger on non-destructive highs, though - a close second is shopping and unless you are filthy rich that can be pretty darn problematic. I've been online shopping this morning - putting things in my online cart, but then just leaving the site without actually buying anything. At least I don't spend - I wish I could say I avoid eating, too. Well, so far today I have at least. We must take our victories where we can get them!

And you've had a big one - hitting the water and not the chips. Every time you make the better choice you are making yourself stronger. Congratulations to you, I know it's not easy to walk away from the binge urge. One step closer to goal!

I'm depresssssssssssed.... I was just out in the backyard playing with my boys in the pool when someone in our neighborhood started up their barbeque... with its deliciousssssss smell!

I've already had my L&G for the day (it was a fabulous shredded salad at Moe's with a bit of yummy chicken, salsa and a teensy bit of sour cream as my fat, it was teh YUM!!!) so I can't have any bbq, but I WAAAAAAAANT IT!!!! *whines uncontrollably*

can't wait till maintenance when I won't have this problem, I can have my salad at lunch and then a teensy bit of bbq at dinner, all very much within my caloric limit for the day *sighhhhhh*

I also want a huge amount of cake batter ice cream from ColdStone Creamery, but that's a different matter icon_rolleyes.gif

hi JZ,

Wow.....just wow. In the last few days you've said a big "NO" to pizza, bbq, and Lord knows what else. Give yourself a huge pat on the back for that. Pizza and bbq are huge trigger foods for me and in my first few days of MF I actually cried and promised myself as soon as the weight came off I was going to have a slice of pizza....that I could have it eventually, just not now. I know that is not the greatest thing to tell yourself, as it's so easy to slide into those old bad habits, but I needed SOMETHING to hold on to! wallwall.gif

So, from me to you.... yourock.gif
