My knee was in such bad shape that I had to stop Curves. The great news is that I discovered swimming. At first I was doing water aerobics but I kept watching these people doing laps and I really got into it. I now have goggles and am doing the breast stroke and freestyle. It is pretty amazing and the more I read about it the more I understand the benefits. Your blood pressure actually drops in the water because you weigh so much less and I have always believed water to be pretty healing in itself. Just wondered if anyone else is swimming for their exercise.

I love swimming! I'm going back on the road next week, so I'll be swimming laps in the hotel pools again! When I'm home (and it's warm enough), I have the little belt thing for the water jogging too!
Sounds like you found a GREAT alternative!

I have never been a very strong swimmer. I kind of wade around. I don't think I have ever done laps in my life. I dog paddle in the deep end of the pool. Maybe I will try a few laps in the pool in Hong Kong. I have to go to the pool area to get my foot massage. I already emailed them to ask how many Hong Kong Dollars it was... |

We have an indoor pool and hot tub at my gym- a combination of 20-30 laps plus 20 minutes in the hot tub is the most relaxing and refreshing thing in the world. I come out of there feeling like a million bucks. I think swimming releases super-endorphins!

My daughters are both swimmers. The younger is a competitive swimmer. Both swear that they stay thin because of swimming. The oldest swims laps in her free time (she's away at college) and the younger one swims on average over 5200 yards a day! When they are not swimming or haven't had a chance to swim we always hear them say, "I'm getting so fat". Yeah, right. Oldest is over 5'9 and weights 116 and the younger one is 5'4 and weighs 100 (soaking wet!).
After I've been back on program 3 weeks, I'm going to start using my Pilates Reformer again. I miss it... |
